Windows Home Decorating

Any suggestions for window coverings on these windows?

We are aiming to go for the japandi look… thinking to get a large white sectional sofa soon.

Right room is used as living room and left room is being used as an office. Initially we were thinking floor to ceiling sheer curtains on curtain tracks but decided it might look odd with two different lengths since there’s a step in the middle.

We don’t get very much sun but have been only living here in winter season. It’s been freezing and hoping window coverings will keep the house warmer now and keep heat out in the summer.

Would roller shades look good? Windows are super wide and I’m not sure if wide roller shades will look nice.

I think light and airy is the way to go, and you can do that while warming up the room by the thickness of the material. I’d pair drapes with bamboo or other woven-type blinds or with roller shades. I don’t think it would look odd to have curtains at all because of the step, I’d just make sure the lengths were the same in relation to the floor. You could have the curtain division be where the step is or just treat them as two different windows (separate rods).

I really like 2" wood blinds, too. We have them in the upper bedrooms that face the back of the house (to save money), and they look great. I do love the look of bamboo and woven wood shades. You can get them with a blackout liner so they don't let in as much light. I had considered them but didn't get them because the "all or nothing" aspect(you can only raise or lower). It doesn't sound like that's an issue for you, though, since privacy is not an issue.

Really shutters my last choice especially in a bedroom the drapes are IMO perfect for both a nice back drop to the pretty bed and I always like drapes in a bedroom they add to the softness of the space and in your case also make the window look larger and black all the light.

Thanks for the suggestion, Gordon. An issue I have is that one of the bedroom windows has a window air conditioner installed in its space, at the bottom. So, I wouldn’t want coverings to block the air conditioner, at least during the summer, when I sleep with it on. The Horizontal Sheer Shades (and most sorts of shades or blinds) may work for that but perhaps not the drapery.

On the windows with the blinds, I would put faux roman shades in a pretty fabric. Look on etsy. You could do 1 rod with 1 wide or 3 individual shades on the triple window. Hang the rod about 4-5 inches above the window. I would leave the slider, or you could put a wood cornice over it.

@Jinx thanks so much for your input and photos! I love the 1st and 3rd pics. Do you mean using drapes in addition to blinds/roller shades? I think both curtain pics you shared use curtain tracks instead of rods. We are going to try curtain tracks as window coverings for sliding doors.

Yes, I think you could do both blinds/shades and drapes together, or either separately.
