Cat_mom, you give me too much credit on my kitchen...that was definitely the result of a group effort with the kitchen forum. I actually am quite lacking in the decor department. I always have no idea what to do or where to start, but with a few suggestions I can tell what I like. I don't think I have bad taste (but who does?), but the trouble is I have no creativity or vision. I am very relieved that you all are suggesting doing a WT type for the sliders and the door-sized window, and giving me permission to do something else with the little windows on the side of the room. The thing is my husband really wants to be able to make the room DARK, so I fear bamboo or wood blinds would leak too much light. The original plan was to do blackout cellular shades (which would have to be white to comply with husband) but after seeing the samples, they just seem so papery-plain. What about hanging a slightly patterned sheer over cellulars to soften them and give a translucent option? I could do the same for all of the windows in the room, or I could do the little windows that way, and the big windows with the same sheer, but with an opaque lined curtain instead of a cellular. One last question for now about the big window & slider...if we do cellular shades on them, the sliders would have vertiglide with the grooves vertical, and the big window right next to it would have regular horizonal grooves. Wouldn't that look funny?

Back to reality. Go to a window and door showroom that also handles coverings (such as Hunter Douglas). They will have representative displays (maybe not on the Andersen 400) but you will get the idea. You will need a covering that doesn't interfere with the handle when it is in the down position. Depending on your wall thickness, possibly surface mounted. Good luck.

Really lovely space!! My first thought, was do you you need the window coverings? I like as much light as possible, but if a neighbor can see in, I completely understand. We did the panels on rings as suggested above for my parents slider. It was very easy for them to close at night. The linen look roman shades are very pretty, maybe even with some accent trim. Or woven wood blinds to pick up on your table? Considering your lighting, it doesn't look bad. The one over the table looks a bit small in comparison to your pendant lights. You can google for the 'correct' formula for size and placement. I tend to like down lights over an island if you do a lot of prep work. It keeps the focus on what you're doing so not to loose a finger! Per the dining light, agree on hanging it lower. I like your first one. The second photo looks to me like it would be a dust catcher inside that glass. So for me, I wouldn't want any sort of globes that faced upward, as dusting is not my favorite! Smiling is....;) (Elf joke-sorry!) So many options, just some examples...

Hey There: My suggestion for your windows are motorized roller shades. I believe you don't have power to the windows, so a lithium battery operating system (the charge lasts 6 to 9 months) with a remote control is a great solution. Minimalistic style to keep the openness of your windows. You will cover only the squared part of the upper windows though - the roller shades will line up with your horizontal bars in the window. The different height in the window give a nice variation in design. The roller shades are only 2 1/4 and not bulky - no casing is required and you can operate them from your smartphone. To charge the roller shades, just plug them in like your tablets and recharge them over nite - done. (no chain though)
