The room looks huge. I assume that is not your furniture? How will you use the room? Look at the lake? Look at a television? Reading? bookshelves? Sage green or other woodsy color would likely balance the yellow/orange of the cedar and focus your eye on the great view. Are you happy with the gloss of the floor? A floor plan would help too — rug(s) size, etc. Sounds like a lovely setting — very rural?

The furniture was left in the house, so no, not our stuff. We will be purchasing new furniture for this space once we move into the house. The plan for this great room is to focus on the view of the lake. We plan to also have a fireplace installed on the right side looking out. No TV. I don't mind the floor, it's in great shape and I will add area rugs to break down the shine. I like your idea of a green hue, was thinking of the new BM colour October Mist. I like grey but not sure it would work n this area.

Agree with above, you need some inspiration for color to work off of.

Just driving home from our lake cottage in NW Michigan — grey in winter would not help on those cloudy days. Green is a great neutral too! What kind of fireplace? A freestanding Malm or other would be spectacular mid-window and keep your eyes on the lake even with a fire.

Not sure yet about the fireplace style. I like the idea of working from the rug choice. Thanks

Don't get in a hurry about paint as it should be based on the fabrics and textiles you choose. You can select those now and get them ordered as delays are the norm these days. Samples of the fabrics you choose will help you begin to narrow down the paint colors, and paint can also be custom blended to work with the fabric/textile choices you make.

Funiture should be pulled away from the walls.
