Hosta K 2021 .........................
Comments (30)The K-Hostas I have a both pretty sad. On the right in the first photo is what was labeled as being Hosta katsuragawa beni, but I see no red on the petioles, so I think it unlikely. This poor plant has been eaten down to the roots for several years in a row so I had to dig it up and stick it in the time-out pot to teach it to fight back against the rabbits. It was promptly eaten again about two days after this photo was taken. (left is a Lakeside Dragonfly, which will be reposted a month or so =) Below is my poor, deeply buried Krossa Regal, which holds the honor of being my oldest hosta (that I actually planted myself). It has been getting smaller for the last five years of its 12-year life. I have another time-out pot ready for it in the corner of the garage. Get bigger or else....See MoreHosta U 2021 ...................
Comments (29)That last one reminds me of a tough dandelion after I hit it with roundup, hence, "Dandelion Roundup" although I love Cthulhu too. I think that reference is a bit older than Dr. Who. Also, that Streaker is in need of a fertility clinic. Have you tried it with known tetraploids? I sometimes wonder if some of these so-called sterile Hosta might actually be fertile with tets. I got rid of all of my Undulatas leaving me with only one U - Urchin It was doing better a couple of years in a pot, so hopefully next year it will leap in the ground. Here's one with its amazing flowers....See MoreHosta W 2021 ..................
Comments (35)Mosswood, your Warwick Comet is wonderful. That was one of my early additions when I got really into hostas. I lost it in 2020 to cutworms and got a replacement last year. I hope it gets beautiful like yours one day. Thank you RE White Feather. It was a mail-order gift from my MIL in 2019, from Amazon. I didn’t recognize the vendor, and the plant should up in a baggie of peat like you would expect for a bulb. I regarded it with suspicion and planted it in topsoil in a 3x3 plastic pot. It grows in part shade to shade. I move it to the front of the potted plants in spring, and then slide it to the back as it gets green. I often overlooked it from July onward and forgot to water it. I may have moved it to a bigger pot last year. I guess we’ll know in 1-2 months. Someone on this forum alerted me 1-2 years ago about the lovely springtime look of this plant, so I actually looked at it this spring and watched it change. So, thanks again and thanks to my MIL....See MoreHosta Flowers 2021 ......................
