Advice on positioning loft bed in son's bedroom.
Comments (7)Hard to say for sure without pictures, but I vote for Option #1. It would be good to have a solid wall opposite the desk area so there is no glare coming from the window. Also, you can hang up some sort of bulletin board and/or under-cabinet type lighting to illuminate the space in the evenings. if your concern with option #1 is the closet door clearance, you can switch that out to either bifold doors, no door or even hang a curtain....See MoreThinking of getting DS a loft bed...please advise
Comments (14)I also am not a fan of loft beds. To add yet another reason to those already listed, I don't think that the desk area is really very useful for today's students. The needs are changing at a lighting pace with more and more emphasis on using computers and the internet for daily homework assignments, communication with other teachers, classmates, etc. We bought large computer desks with a keyboard pullouts and hutch about 4 years ago; but for DS in 9th grade he now uses a laptop and we plan to upgrade DD in 7th to a laptop before school resumes in the fall. At that time I did also get DD a captain's bed that is raised a bit higher than the average bed and has drawer storage below. It works great for her and it a great space saver in a smaller room so that I could eliminate the need for a dresser. If I were to get the loftbed for a teenager, I much prefer the ones with the sofas below as it's a nice place to sit and hang with their friends, read do honework, etc....See MoreGuest Bedroom bed placement
Comments (18)Ahhh...measurements don't lie but there are ways to try and maximize what you have. The lovely chair you have in your ideabook won't fit. Keeping the bed where it is, you have about 22"-23" for a nightstand between the bed and the wall. It isn't terrible but you can try and squeeze even more space from the adjacent wall by considering a corner unit. Something like this will give your guests more surface area for their loose items and roughly mimic the size of the windows on the other side of the bed. You can accomplish the same thing with simple corner shelves and tall, narrow mirrors, artwork or textiles above. Be creative with bedside lighting - plug in sconces above the headboard, or a much taller lamp on the Bombay chest and undershelf lighting on the corner unit......See Morediy build a loft bed or buy pre-made loft bed?
Comments (21)Use a dresser (Ikea) as a change table to eliminate a piece of furniture or look for a smaller style and put in closet for even more floor space (take doors off and organize). Floating shelves are good space savers as well for a monitor, lamp, small books, stuffed animals, etc. With space gained, create a special spot for your toddler, which I think is really important. If you search Pintetest for baby and toddler sharing bedroom, there are articles around set ups/helpful hints and lots of inspirational/useful pictures. Good luck....See MoreAims
