overly large gold mirror above stone fireplace - Can I make it work?
Comments (23)Thanks for all the comments. I agree I need to lower it, it is so heavy, but I'm thinking of installing wire on the back so it hangs lower and at a bit of an angle. I have a beautiful painting that I love on the wall next to this one. Some of you said what I really kind of knew, but was too tired after the hanging to think of changing it! I'll be cleaning up the bricks, and accessorizing, Thanks for your creative ideas, gives me inspiration. Oh, and I couldn't flip the direction - I have reasonably high ceilings, but it would not make it comfortably - 60" wide...See MorePaint color for wall that has large tv and linear fireplace
Comments (9)Thanks. Did you put in a linear fireplace? Which did you get and how do you like it? We are trying to decide between linear fireplace with TV above or offset fireplace (linear/traditional/vertical) and offset TV. I tend to like the offset but not sure how it will affect resale....See MoreFireplace wall paint color help needed
Comments (12)Poor fireplace. Why do people take desireable architectural features (in this case early 1900s Arts&Crafts) and proceed to make a mess of them. I revoke my previous comment. I would remove the paint from the masonry (stucco portion) AND do a deep cleaning of the entire fire place (using appropriate products) which will brighten/freshen the look. Its not that large an area, shouldnt be much more work than prepping it for painting. If paint has gotten too deeply embedded into the stucco then there are mineral paints and coatings that would replicate a more "mineral" look (vs. plastic paint film that sits on the surface).,...See Morestone fireplace paint living room help!
Comments (7)I agree that the fireplace surround will look better if it is painted the trim color. And take down the wimpy valances, the blinds will look fine until you decide on something nicer. Right now your walls, fireplace, wood floors, rug and wood trim are all warm tones. Keep that in mind when you are choosing new items for the house. Most grays are cool-toned and often look "off" when put in spaces that are predominately warm-toned. Grays and tans can be mixed successfully but it's easier if you stick with one palette - warm or cool....See MoreMeaghann Deasy
