May I say something to all lurkers
Comments (57)Hi and thank you for the welcome. I usually lurk because I don't get here often. I find that when I get on the internet - and especially this site! - that I can spend an enormous amount of time. So while I enjoy checking in to see whats going on, or what is new, or new photos, I also check out the money saving tips, or crafts and painting. I actually don't fit in too much there either as I paint on canvas, but don't do crafts or decorative painting any more. But, I still enjoy seeing what others do. Everyone in these groups are very friendly and I know that if I occasionally have an answer or thought about something, it, nor I, will be rejected. I say silent prayers for those in need. Laugh at funny remarks, and have a great time. I have my cuppa and occasionally grab a refill. Rhonda...See More? from Lurker about cataracts
Comments (17)I had my first cataract surgery two days ago so I'm right up on this. I went for the distance vision only and my dr. said he's make this eye so it could see the computer too. I'm thrilled with it. I sit here with my glasses on but the left lens popped out and I can see clear as a bell as I type. I do enlarge my print so that's a clue. As for close up smaller print, I'll just pop on a pair of cute cheaters. I get the second eye done in two weeks and I can't wait for life without glasses. It will be so wonderful to drive. We went out at last night for a drive and I could see oncoming cars with no flash or halos. Yippeeeee. Btw, my dr. is a top surgeon at Mass. General hospital and he doesn't recommend the two vision procedure for anyone unless they insist. I went by his recommendation and very happy. Here is the name of the lens he put in: Bausch & Lomb Model L161A0...See MoreHelp! Lost RP Recipes
Comments (15)The Cherry Cake recipe I got from here, although I thought it was from Carolyn: 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar 1 9-oz pkg Philadelphia Cream Cheese, softened 1 cup margarine, softened 1-1/2 tsp vanilla 4 eggs 2 cups sifted cake flour 1-1/2 tsp baking powder 3/4 cups well drained chopped maraschino cherries, salad cherries are fine 1/4 cup cake flour Glaze: 1-1/2 cups sifted confectioner's sugar 2 tablespoons milk Preheat oven to 325 degrees First, chop the maraschino cherries and set aside. (I chop the small ones in half, larger into quarters.) Thoroughly mix the cake flour with baking powder. Combine sugar, cream cheese, margarine and vanilla, mixing until well blended. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Gradually add 2 cups flour and baking powder, mixing well after addition. Toss the cherries with the 1/4 cups flour, trying to coat each piece of cherry. Fold into the batter. Pour into a 10 inch tube pan, greased and bake for 1 hour 20 minutes. Cake is done when it is light gold and toothpick comes out clean. Let cool for 5 minutes; remove from pan. Cool thoroughly. When cooled, combine the glaze ingredients and drizzle over cake. Garnish with cherries. Notes: Make sure you watch it while it's baking and check it after an hour- if toothpick comes out clean, it's done. Don't let the cake cool for any more than 5t minutes before removing from the pan; it will stick! This cake freezes well. Wrap it well and thaw it for 24 hours prior to serving. Don't glaze before freezing. The original recipe called for 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans to be sprinkled into the greased pan before adding the batter. I've never tried it but it's probably good. In lieu of cake flour, I have used 1 cup regular flour less 2 tablespoons and it works just fine. Can also be made in 5 greased and floured 5-3/4 X 3-1/4 inch loaf pans. Bake at 325 for 45-50 minutes. I made it with pecans and it was lovely...See MoreCommon Reader
Comments (26)I have only been here about a year - but I was on GW for many years and Spike was part of that. I know, because he deleted my threads more than once. And iVillage was horrible in the beginning, tho now things seem to be back in place and running along quite nicely (w/o Spike) I like this place to have few OT threads. I am here to talk books. On another forum, OT threads basically strangled any other thread. I can chatter elsewhere (besides its amazing how much 'chatter' you can have while talking about books!) My fav OT thread is the virtual parties. Great idea!...See Moreannpanagain
