A friend of mine recently bought a condo and used brown paper bags to help determine how large a piece of furniture should be. She cut out the dimensions of different coffee tables she was considering to see how comfortable it would be to walk around.

Before considering adding items, have a direction on how you want room to feel. Choose an item/feature and build arround it and/or look at inspiration pictures.

For instance, I chose your windows/view, which are the stars. Use black and metal, with wood and clay for warmth, light cushions/rug so room feels airy, softer and eyes will automatically head to the view.

This rug is 100% wool and comes in lots of sizes. I wouldn't go too large.
