Furniture Design Dilemma Kitchens

Help me pick some counter stools

Hello there. I'm preparing to redo my kitchen/dinning area since my old furniture no longer fits the new space.I have settled on a table, chairs and chandelier, but and hesitant on the counter stool selection. Not sure if to go with the darker, close to walnut shade or the lighter oak shade. I'm attaching pictures of the space, my choices and the stools in question.

The choices I have made so far

Stools I'm considering (bottom is light oak, top is dark walnut) The table I selected is oak, in person looks a bit lighter than in that picture.

Thanks for your help. Going with these choices since we are expecting and want to remove the hassle of having fabric in our chairs and stools, and a delicate table.

Doesn't look like there's much overhang of the counter and you'll need access to the doors under the island. Straight leg stools will scoot closer than those with splayed legs sticking out in front. You can have them splay in back or to the sides but not toward the island base. I like this one because it looks less likely to tilt with a toddler pulling on it, and easy to roll away from the island for cleaning and access. It may be too rustic for you and supplies are limited now. They used to offer them with all different colors for the seats.

I dislike perching on a backless stool.

think of your guests, you'll be up and down hosting, they want to be comfortable.

Does the picture you posted show the kitchen before or after the remodeling? If the floor is going to be as pictured, I'm not sure it is going to go with the lighter colored wood table pictured. It's hard for us to determine colors on monitors, but it doesn't look good to me. Have you been able to see it next to one of your floor tiles?

How much do you think those stools will be used? A backless wood chair will be uncomfortable after a couple minutes.

Thank you everyone for your confirmation of what I knew already. I just needed a push to make the decision. I am so bad at making decisions. I waffle back and forth and go over and over it in my head, and it is nice to have found you all to help me and give me food for thought. I have been on the kitchen forum for over a year, but I never posted much, was mostly a lurker. Many there just plain out intimidated me with their knowledge of the tiniest details of kitchen design and planning and the opinions to go with it. I did learn many things there and it helped me immensely in planning my kitchen, but I have to say I feel much more comfortable on this forum and I see myself spending much more time here now. Thanks so much for the replies. For those interested this is a new construction so there's not much for photos. The kitchen will be L shaped with a 4x7.5' island. I'm not sure on my budget for the stone but I believe I can go up a bit in price if need be. Right now I'd say mid range is my price point. I appreciate the photos poohpup and the input gr8day and herbflavor. I was considering something leathered with not a lot of movement for the perimeter and maybe something wilder on the island. Any more pics that anyone has to share would be greatly appreciated.

I would go for a solid gray, I think, lighter than your floors. also, switch location of dishwasher and sink -- you need a landing spot for hot pans next to the stove, as well as prep space between sink and stove.

“What do you think of off white or gray with my cabinets?” Hi Barbara, I don’t think that particular gray is a good idea. May we please see images of the entire space that include your floor? Do you have any inspiration images you can share with us? They can be incredibly helpful. Just google images of kitchens with oak cabinets and show us a few that you like. Here are a few I’ve found.

@kandrewspa no remodeling, tiles will stay. I have not been able to see the table next to the tile. I wanted to add some black accents with chairs and chandelier for contrast, but I was hesitant of going with a dark table. I think stools will be used a moderate amount, mostly for breakfast in the morning. If you have some suggestions for better colors I'm all ears. I'm not an interior designer and I have never had tile in so many areas before. Thanks in advance.

You have tile and countertops and wood...get another texture....so how about a fabric to add warmth and interest and color?

Here are two stool ideas which might work for your bar area. We might recommend looking at getting backs on the stools so those that sit there will be more comfortable.
