Comments (2)I think painted would probably blend more, but I have painted cabinets in my kitchen and I'm constantly having to touch up chips. Admittedly, I have a preschooler and a kitchen gets a lot more abuse than a family room, but there are a lot of chips that I can't blame on the child... (and the fireplace and floor though you didn’t ask) The furniture that’s there - the wing chair, its fussy side thing, the sofa, rust-colored floor cushions, the rug — those are what are making the room look dated. If you want to lighten/modernize the room as you said, replace those things. That room is a candidate for West Elm and dwr if I ever saw one. Comments (3)some plants would be nice. could you put an eye hook in the ceiling and do a type of hanging Pothos in the corner? you have some beautiful light, I'd have a bunch of orchids and african violets! then just bring in few items this glass vase w/blossoms would look nice. you need something w/a little height. that's why I mentioned doing the hanging plant off to one side this one is almost identical to yours, but painted...See MoreHU-187528210
