Finally - Floors In! - What kind of rugs in kitchen
Comments (20)Wow, I was thrilled to find this thread. We have just refinished our hardwood floors, and after the cost and what we went through to get them refinished, I am determined to keep them looking new! We raised 3 boys on them and they were pretty beat up, particularly in front of the refrigerator with water damage. Now, I am contemplating what, if any, rug I might place in the kitchen. I'm thinking a runner at the sink/prep area, and a 2x3 in front of the fridge. I'm interested in the comment by one that the floor/finish is not showing wear and tear after 7 years - I would hope for that! If I get a rug, I want something easy to clean/throw in the wash or hose off. Has anyone used polypropylene on hardwood? Crate & Barrel has some indoor/outdoor rugs made of that in a neutral color, I just want to be certain that product wouldn't scratch the floor. I tend to be an all natural gal though, cotton and wool. I would prefer to have nothing, if I felt certain the prep area wouldn't show wear. I'm thinking all cotton, with no pad or backing, is a good choice to try, throw in the wash, and if I don't like it I'll go back to nothing. I wanted to comment on rugs placed for comfort - I have always worn house shoes with great support for long hours in the kitchen, which are far better than any rug/gel rug can provide. Back in the day it was Birkenstocks, but a few years ago I discovered Fit Flops, and they are the best!! Got that cushy support under your feet with every step. :-)...See MoreFlokati/shag runner rug for a long hallway-- what do you think?
Comments (18)You've gotten all the choices so far. I can only add one more thing. Can you become very, very good friends with your neighbor? Somehow if she knows you and your cat, the noise won't be as disturbing. I can't imagine your cat running for hours on end. Also, if you get to know your neighbor, you too can be more considerate of distracting your cat when you know your neighbor is still sleeping, or having friends over etc. She too will understand the need for your cat to play, at least sometimes. We have noisy side neighbors. My neighborhood is turning over to young families which is fine. And, I don't mind hearing kids shout while they play. But….it is the dad that is the issue. They play soccer I think and if a kids doesn't hit a goal the dad yells OOOOOOOOooooooo. But in a friendly way, like you almost got it! One day, this went on for two hours. I timed it. There is nothing we can do, and luckily we have breaks when they are not in the yard. It just shows you how one family's enjoyment can greatly be affected.by another....See MoreDo you have a comfort mat for your kitchen?
Comments (20)No Costco here! Darn! I am happy to hear you all like yours though. I guess you have to become a member which may not be feasible for me. Lynn, we have Saltillo floors so they are hard on my feet, but love the durability of them. 3katz, I worry about the bottom of mats also as some rubber products have left marks-so I have to be careful. I like the looks of rugs also but at Thanksgiving this year I spilled gravy all over the one at my stove! And I am picky about rugs-I don't like cheap-looking ones. bossy, thanks for the heads up about the gel pro brand. However, there is an elite gelpro one now and I wonder if those are better than the classic? Do you remember if yours is classic?...See MoreWhat kind of rug/runner in front of sink over wood floors?
Comments (11)Here is a pic of the area of my oak floors (real oak) that is directly in front of my sink, dishwasher to the right. I refinished them 14 years ago, but have not touched them since. No rug there - that would be one more thing for me to clean, and I will say that my sister has one for her sink, and it gets pretty grungy before she can get around to getting it cleaned. I'd rather just take a towel and wipe up drips from the floor than have a rug in front of the sink absorb the drips until I can get to wash it. Also, my house is a no-shoes house. I am not saying you need to be whatsoever. I am saying I suspect it to be a contributing factor to my floors' good appearance. I do have several pets with nails that scramble around....See MoreRelated Professionals
