From hospital, AGAIN!

After 3 weeks and surgery for infection due to hip replacement, I's good to be home.

Hope this is it for a while. I do have to deal witlh the wound device attached for at least several more weeks

Welcome home, Margaret! It looks from here that your trip to Colorado was meaningful and memorable. Family time is often the best of times. Yes, it is unseasonably cool up here near 49Â° North! I spent an hour or so outside this morning. It was 39Â° with a 15 mph wind, so a windchill of 31!! It will surprise no one to say that my tomatoes are purple! I came home to have a 2nd breakfast of hot oatmeal and strong, hot coffee. Your comment about "blue monet" in bloom gave me pause. I think you may mean mountain bluet but googling, I discovered that there's an iris variety called Blue Monet. I have thought that "bluet" could have a more reasonable name. My wife was once at the farmers' market and amongst her bouquets were some bluet flowers. She was approached by a pair of middle-aged ladies and one of them asked the name of the blue flowers. "Bluet," she replied. But as they turned away, the friend turned towards the lady and said, "I don't think she knows the name of that flower." I once worked for a person who sold flowers to dozens if not hundreds of flower shops. She advised me that if questioned about a flower that I didn't know I should respond, "Oh, that's some kind of Centaurea species!" Her claim was that I would usually be right and that it would sound more intelligent than claiming that it was some kind of Aster which would be even more likely to be true . . . Anyway, in my searching I was led to Wikipedia to view a blue painting by Claude Monet . . . Did you know that after cataract surgery, Monsieur Monet went back to earlier paintings and added blue to the canvases?!? Selling an empty house versus staged house (again)

Both places I bought were empty. One was a sponsor apartment that had been rented out in NYC. When I was looking then whenever possible I asked for a floor plan and would decide if I even wanted to see it based on floor plan. I tend to think of myself as practical and I am right handed (so left brain) so maybe there is something to the personality idea. As for my house, I first saw it with furniture and that is how I remember it. We refused to bid as much as they wanted and walked. Several months later the relo company bought it and it was empty and we bought it from them. Although I remember the POs drapes (very nice but were not left!) but I remember not being impressed with her cabinets in the living room and I do remember how much I liked it empty (although it tends to look a little too long that way) To be honest i would rather have an empty room than a card table unless it was nice one. I do agree about small bedrooms, we have a small one and it is amazing what you can fit in there, at one point we had a Twin bed, Two cribs, a changing table and Two dressers and the room is 10 x 14. When I go to sell I will move the cribs to opposite walls (they like being on the same wall now) to make the room look wider

We kind of steered away from pocket doors based on a bunch of feedback/input from others. Don't be afraid of pocket doors -- just be aware of where they're appropriate /where they're inappropriate. They have their pros and cons. Pocket doors are perfect for places where your door is almost always left open; for example, a mudroom or a laundry room is often a good place for a pocket door -- we tend to leave those doors open most of the time, but we want to be able to close them when we have company. Pros of pocket doors: - Disappear when you're not using them. - No problems with "door swing" ... no need for a place to "park" the door when it's open. Cons of pocket doors: - With heavy use (for example, a bathroom door), they will break. Because the working mechanism is inside a wall, you may need a pro to fix the door. - They sometimes hinder other items in a build; for example, you cannot have plumbing and a pocket door in the same wall space ... similarly, you need to think about walls that you want to support cabinets or built-ins. Simple artwork, of course, can be held up with Command Hooks, which don't penetrate the wall. - They require a thicker wall. - With no real handles, the hardware is harder for children /elderly to use. - They often don't lock. As for the large master bedroom and bathroom, I don't have a problem in theory with the amount of space, but I think you do need to think through how you'll arrange furniture - your actual furniture, not the generic bed plopped in by the architect. Unless you're planning for your master to act as a sitting room /exercise room /whatever else, you can slash it significantly. Do you watch TV in bed? If so, imagine how far away the TV would be ... my old eyes wouldn't be able to see it. Consider this "downsized" master and bathroom: It's still a large master suite, but it's not bloated. Yeah, we've had a lot of people try to dissuade us about the separate baths for the kids - but it's something we like and they're a young boy and girl. I'd listen to the "lots of people". You'll spend so much time cleaning bathrooms ... keeping all those bathrooms stocked with TP and shampoo is just one more chore. I'd go with a simple bathroom opening to both rooms. That's not character. It's taking a classy lady and turning her into a hootchie mama. There is much more character in simplicity. Agreed. I think this "fear of my house being too plain" is a big concern these days, and people seem to be going too far the other direction. Elegance and simplicity are NOT the same thing as "plain". OP, remember, too, that you're looking at a house plan without landscaping. Adding landscaping to a new house is like adding accessories to a Little Black Dress ... they can dress it up /dress it down /make it personal. I like CP's idea of shifting the right bedrooms down for a better entrance placement to that wing. Yes, that was a very good detail. I like the central placement of the stone in this pix -- I would steer away from trendy stacked stones, which will be "out" one of these days:

My gosh Glenda I had no idea you were having such problems. I don't know if I missed a post about it or if you have been totally off line. Im so sorry you have had all this trouble but so very glad to hear you are home. Hope you are able to see family for Christmas. Please treat yourself well.

I am so pleased for you and I totally get your relief. I had a total knee replacement one week ago. Even without an infection (yet), recovery is not a simple task. Take care and get better! Once we pass this recovery stage, we are both going to be so happy!
