Yes, it will be mounted to an 8' ceiling above the 2nd story floor pictured. And yes, we have a railing now (that photo is a few months old when the floors were getting worked on). Position wise, if you are standing on the higher angled landing, the light will be directly above where the missing railing should be (not centered directly over the staircase). I'll put an "X" there. Does that help? If it's still too unclear, I can try to get a better picture with the light that's there now. Centered at eye level as you stand. Hmmm - that sounds like a good height. Yes, I am worried about the cleaning/changing bulb factor. The electrician is going to have to construct a scaffold just to install it. You can't just plop a ladder against the wall to reach it. =/ I went with enclosed glass thinking it would get less dusty than the bell jar style pendant that I originally wanted that was open at the top (DH said NO WAY to that idea). I didn't even Think to do an open design that I could have attacked with a swiffer. Sigh. Hindsight is 20/20, right? Changing bulbs will likely be a nightmare. DH wants to go with an energy efficient Long lasting bulb so he has to change it as seldomly as possible. That's terrific that your DH can reach it with a hook. My DH is not that tall (could I hire yours when it's time to change a bulb? ha ha, just kidding). But maybe we could find a tall, long limbed friend or relative to help us!

It's also about head level (you could still read the words over my head, just not see the drawing on the bottom. I'm usually the one stuck in the corner, so DS and DH could read it over my head! I like seeing it while sitting in the FR and not have the light obscure some of the words. I might be able to find something to go above it, but would it have to have same colors? Be rustic as well? I might wait til the window trim is up, though - might even put scarf up on rod since I have 2 separate shades - but that's another post. I'm also going to center it more on the wall - may not be able to get it exactly centered since the T-stat isn't, and the canvas is narrow, but close. I was just thinking this AM I should get something with a hollow back to cover the T-stat that we never use (should have had the builder put it on the kitchen side), I was in TJ MAxx getting another drawer organizer and saw this for $10! It's not a grow light, I don't know who could possibly afford an actual grow light they're like 30 dollars for a 2 ft light. It's just am extra bright led shop light. Anyway yeah I think I'll just keep an eye on temp and soil and such. It doesn't generate much heat so I don't think it'll scorch anything. I don't think I started too early unless I miscalculated. Tomatoes and other long season things a re usually 8-10 weeks before last frost date right? I think I planted last week of March so around 9 weeks. But we definitely should've held off on the raspberries! I do grow a lot of tomatoes because I can a whole years worth of tomato products for a family of 3. That's a couple quarts of tomato sauce per week plus you need a TON of tomatoes to make paste. I also plan on sharing with family and friends who don't know how to start seeds. But I still may end up culling weaker seedlings lol I did go a touch overboard.
