Remodeling Design Dilemma Kitchens

dark cabinets and Carrara Quartz counters- need backsplash ideas

Remodeling kitchen in a Spanish style home in NorCal. Current oak cabinets will be painted / stained a dark espresso and we bought Carrara Aria quartz for countertop- looking for backsplash ideas . My husband wants to go with stone mosaic in grey shades - I am saying no - I want to stick closer to countertop colors ( white, gold and espresso) with herringbone pattern Tiles backsplash - can’t share pics yet as none of the work has completed

Floor tile is travertine - cream and brown

Mystery meat without pictures. Also doesn't seem to suit a Spanish style home, NOR the tile floor.

Pictures of the existing condition and the selections. Otherwise? No help.....other than no doesn't sound good. Certainly not with travertine floor unless you prove otherwise in some pictures.

Sorry but as much as I dislike oak Espresso cabinets scream cheap Chinese crap and are already the most dated color for cabinets and how do you plan to mix cararra and travertine in the same space , not happening. PICTURES post in a comment if you can't add to your post.

This is where Oceanside sells odd lots online. They have 217 tiles in Cane Iridescent in a 3 x 6 tile. It is in a different shape, called "lune" (probably because its profile resembles a crescent moon). The center of each tile pillows out from the wall, making a ridged pattern. These tiles are half price, $1.49 each. Since they are not even offered in a 3 x 6 size, they must have been a special order. They also have 125 of 3 x 9 flat cane iridescent tiles for $3.49 each (reg $8). If you like tiny half-inch mosaics, they have 45 sheets of a color called "canary" that looks a golden pearl color for $19.99 per 12.75" sheet. Since the beadboard is vertical, I would pick a marble mosaic or glass mosaic and run it vertically, for example: http://www.completetile.com/products/mosaic/mosaic_masterworks/mosiac-masterworks/bead-board-i-complete-tile-collection-0/ which comes in another color, I am pretty sure, or: http://www.completetile.com/products/glass/katami_glass/color-sizes-and-specifications/ or something similar. I also love the idea of using a slab of the same countertop material as the backsplash. It looks elegant and is easier to clean than a tile due to not having a ton of grout lines! This is the original kitchen - not sure if the cabinets are oak or birch - the countertop was definitely granite tiles - what we are doing

Replace countertop with calacatta Aria Quartz and stain the cabinets with espresso stain. Replace all appliances with LG stainless steel ( already installed dishwasher and fridge as I. Pictures - this was built 2013 so cabinets are & years old

I don’t have a close up picture of the floor but if you zoom in you can see the tiles - they look like ceramic not travertine

You do know, that you cant stain the cabinets, unless you strip them completely, dont you. Stain has to be able to soak into the wood, and it cant do that when the wood has a finish on it.

These cabinets look like stained Maple. They paint up very well. Staining? Not so much.

We bought a cabinet to install on the countertop as an appliance garage - any ideas where I can get the lift up type of cabinet door instead ?

I’m confused. You bought extra oak cabinets to add to your existing maple cabinets? And you are going to paint them all? You have 2 different woods and door styles - this is not going to look good in my opinion.

Yes - wood doesn’t really matter once we paint them all same color - as far as door style is concerned - I wanted different style because these cabinets will be used as a storage for dishes and glassware - it works for us

Well, yes yes, actually wood does matter. Paint will look very different on smooth maple versus grainy oak. Good luck to you.
