House expansion - concrete deck

Hello everyone,

I'm considering a home expansion since we're running out of space. There is a covered open exterior porch with concrete deck. I would like to enclose it and make it part of the interior living space. The issue I'm wondering about is how to deal with the floor level height differential. The exterior concrete deck is about 1 1/2" below the finished concrete floor of the interior. The interior has a stained concrete finish.

1. How would the lower exterior slab be filled in to arrive at the same height as the living space? Can it be filled in with concrete?

2. What would happen where the new and existing concrete meet? Would there be a transition strip?

3. Or is it better to fill it in with another material. It would probably be hard to match the existing stained concrete anyway, and the entire first floor may have to be refinished.

Hope this is all making sense.

Thanks in advance.

Amanda
