Here's my new sofa! And a Christmas decor question

Excuse the mess, I'm in the process of Christmas decor. I wasn't kidding when I said I wasn't going to pay high dollar for a sofa with the two horses still around. They're 8 years old and each weigh about a 100 lbs. Sweethearts they are. :)

I can't believe my luck, the sofa is a freebie from my ex-DIL and the sofa isn't that old and it's in perfect condition. The blanket usually covers the arms too, but DH has been lazy. Super comfy and it's not as beige/brown in the picture. It actually looks to be super light blue but it's not. We also have 3 more cats.

Decor question. Nothing is permanent yet, but which way should the nutcrackers behind the sofa face? That area of the room is large. The entryway is to the right and TV on the wall in front of the sofa.

That's where I keep family pictures and they face away from the sofa.

I would say they face the same direction as the photos.

Welcome Cindy! And there is no way we would be overwhelmed with all of your great decoration pics. We love pictures. I'm looking forward to more. My favorite is your bathroom. I LOVE what you did with the soap! How Cute! I may have to steal- I mean BORROW - that idea for my bathroom! And I'm not allowing myself to look very long at your village pieces. I have NO MORE storage space. NONE. PERIOD. I was closet/cabinet/storage space deprived BEFORE I was stricken with this "dish-ease" that I caught on this forum. I went shopping after Halloween last year and bought 3 storage bins full of Halloween stuff and had to give up precious space in my MB closet to store it. Now I truly can't buy anything else until I build a garage, storage building, or add a LARGE storage room to my house. And my budget isn't allowing that in the near future. Sigh... So.. hurry and show us the outside decorations. It's close enough for me! LOL Betty

Hi everyone! Sorry for the delayed response--been very busy with work. I do agree with needing to raise the tree up. I have a large box that should work and will see if I can procure some faux snow. I think I also have some old bricks lying around. HMMMMMM. I actually like red and white lights, as well as blue and white--but my neighbor has blue and white, so I think I'll stick with red and white for a candy cane look. I agree that the lights on the japanese maples aren't my favorite, and that they detract from my christmas tree indoors. I guess I could put them on the bushes to the left of the porch? (There are some large overgrown evergreen bushes to the left, though I'm not sure they show up well in the pictures...) I AM having fun--love decorating my new home for the holidays! Such a fun time! I still have work to do indoors--we're having a party in a week and I have a lot to do before then.

During the day, the pink bulbs probably stand out more than at night when they are lit; why not string some clear ones with the pink ones, that would soften the look; I once used a triple strand of different size bulbs and it looked really nice. It seems to me that copper tones have some pink in them .

i would love to see a picture of your sofa table when you figure it out and finish! i struggle with how to decorate ours every year. i would tend to have the decorations face the front of the room since your back is to them when you're seated....esp if it faces a hallway that's used regularly.

I agree with pudgeder. @bpath, where are those collars from, please? I don’t have a dog, but DD does and he might like a little wearable Christmas cheer!

I think they should face the entrance to room, so that you see the nutcrackers from the front when walking into room..

Boy, there are some cute pet collars on Google! No dog here, and our cats would positively freak out if we put a collar on them.

Sal, that's one of those cheapie fleece blankets, not too thin though. I cannot sleep without one on my bed. Mine's pink. :) That's what rubs agains me when I sleep since I don't like top sheets, and I add a lightweight quilt on top.

We don't let the dogs wear collars since there's a lot of barbed wire out here. If they escape they crawl under ther lowest wire and could get caught. They don't escape often but all the farmers out here know it's our dogs.

Lyban, if they faced the front of the room then their legs and base will be hidden. I've seen decor both ways. What I like about it facing the back of the room which leads to the kitchen and the rest of the house, is when I walk into the room I love looking at whatever decor is on the table, especially family pics.
