New Here - Halloween Decorations to Share!

I lurk here and on other GW forums, but I love holidays and all the neat decorations. Halloween and Christmas are my favorites. Halloween has a special place because it was one my Grandma went "all out" for in decorations. My 2 toddler boys couldn't wait, and I didn't mind, so we decorated this past week. I still need to get my outdoor fall decorations set up, but I thought I'd wait until October. It's still in the low 80's here! The neighbors might think I was pushing it.

Great decorating. I have that "haunted house", actually it is DD's, a gift many years ago from DMIL. I like it because you can have the lighting on with or without the sound.

My fall decorating is done. I start right after Labor Day. By then, I've had enough red, which and blue. Also, Fall being my favorite time of year, I sit on my hands as Labor Day approaches. I don't decorate for Halloween any longer as DD is well past that age and we don't get any kids on Halloween. I can't tell you how many years I bought loads of candy only to munch on it well after Halloween. We have a very long dark driveway, which I think deters the kids, too spooky....

You have really cute things, Cindy. I'd be in a hurry to put them out too. I love your haunted house, and the little trees. The wreath on your door is lovely too.

I'm decorating for fall this week. I don't do too much Halloween decorating, but I will add a few jack-o-lanterns in a couple of weeks.

DD, Thanks and I have a set of dishes, ROYAL DOULTON OLD TRENTHAM SPRAYS, I'd like to show you sometime. Maybe some of you could help me with a tablescape with them. NCnana, I had a SS sideby side and it just up and died after 2 years so I went out and bought the Whirlpool french door with satina finish and like it so far. Yatcher, I can hardly wait to see our matching slipper candle holders and your with table setting. I will try to pay more attention and start trying some tablescapes in the future.LOL I don't have all the fancy things but I do have some neat things. Mo and Lynn thanks, the ghost is one I bought for DGD and she has wanted me to keep it at my house and it is pretty all lite up. White pumpkin bowls are something most of you probably have, right? Jane, you must like teapots, I have a DS who collects tea pots. I enjoyed seeing yours and the beautiful new red dishes you displayed on your post. Plastic bottle, unfortunately. Although glass would be harder to mail. I kind of have to divorice myself from my attempts to avoid plastic during Halloween, or I'd just go nuts with all the stuff we couldn't do. It is recyclable though... There's about 1 tablespoon of sand inside (with a few drops of water, shaken up to keep it from sticking to the bottle), with 5 tiny seashells, and a little plastic sword. Then you roll and tie the invitation with ribbon that's long enough to stick between the cork and the bottle. The cork is pushed in really, really tightly, and they just go right through the mail like that! I put stamps on them...they are under 2 oz each, so they cost $1.34 each to mail. Here's what the invitations read this year - printed on parchment paper, of course: *********************** Get Shipwrecked on Treasure Island at our 5th Annual Halloween Bash! Ahoy, Mateys! Put on your best (or worst) pirate garb, and sail over to our haunted island on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 7:00pm for food, fun, and buried treasure. Follow the enclosed map to find our island Â "X" marks the spot! Pirates only Â all others will be captured and forced to walk the plank! Ship assignments will begin at 8:00pm, the treasure hunt starts immediately after. Beware the spirits and monstersÂ Follow the PirateÂs Code of Honor Â call xxx-xxxx or email xxxx@xxxx.xxx to either reserve your spot on a ship, or to admit that youÂre too scared of Jolly OlÂ Roger to go after the booty for yourself. If we donÂt hear from you, youÂll be hearing from BlackbeardÂs GhostÂ Costumes will be provided for those who "forget" them, as well as a hearty dinner and drinks to ward off that nasty scurvy! I try to mail invitations when I can...not only is it fun for people to find different things in thier mail box, it also avoids potential hard feelings between those we invite from our offices and those we don't. We did coffin invitations 2 years ago though that couldn't be mailed - I looked everywhere to find small coffins that were cardboard, but had no luck. So we folded our own from paper patterns, and hand delivered those. Now of course there are little coffins everywhere... *sigh* People often ask where we get our ideas - and really, hubby and I are normally wondering how people can *avoid* getting so many ideas! Everytime I look through a catalog or walk down a store isle of decorations, more ideas pop into my head, inspired by whatever I see or touch. It just sort of happens!

My my kids are 10 and 11 this year and all of the sudden they want super scary haunted house stuff. Most of my Halloween decorations are still packed from our move almost 2 months ago, but all my old stuff does seem a little too nick-nack-y to me lately. I ended up buying a bunch of spider rings and spiders and used that poster sticky tack stuff to make a trail of spiders up the porch to the door. I thought it was just a little creepy, but not really scary, so it would be a nice compromise with my kids, but then a neighbor girl my daughter's age said she did NOT like it and hasn't been over to play for a while, so I feel a little guilty, like I did something wrong. Aside from a couple of black pumpkins, that's all I did this year. My favorite Halloween was a few years ago when I was feeling super poor and my kids were little and really excited about decorating. I cut out a bunch of black bats out of cardstock and hung them strategically in my entry and stairwell so it looked like they were flying up the stairs. I even sewed a tiny black bead to each one so they would hang better. I thought I saved them, but I haven't seen them since, so who knows. My daughter and I also saved interesting glass bottles for a while to make "potions" but those have been mysteriously misplaced, too.

The Halloween Village display is just delightful. Now you've tempted me into thinking I might need one. (I love my Christmas Village stuff). Your wreath is really pretty!
And all your decorating looks very nice, thanks for sharing your photos with us. Hope you share many more during the Holidays now.

Welcome to our forum, Cindy! I'm glad you finally came out of lurkdom to show us your great Halloween decs. I remember when my own kids were that age . . . they loved seeing our Halloween decorations go up, too. You have some very cute pieces! Stick around!

I bet you will have others out buying the villages to display for Halloween, like Karen's already thinking, gotta have one it sounds like. So Fun, here. I love it that you even decorate the bath.

The Christmas Villages are so neat too but I've never had a place to display one. The ladies here are so nice and I don't have enough time to make it over on a regular basis but when I do I always get a kick out of their posts and enjoy sharing a pic or two.

I will be sharing my inside decorations today if I get them uploaded. I love to decorate and don't seem to find the time to do a great job, so I come here to relax and enjoy theirs. We love having another to share pics and conversations with.

Welcome Cindy! And there is no way we would be overwhelmed with all of your great decoration pics. We love pictures. I'm looking forward to more.

My favorite is your bathroom. I LOVE what you did with the soap! How Cute! I may have to steal- I mean BORROW - that idea for my bathroom!

And I'm not allowing myself to look very long at your village pieces. I have NO MORE storage space. NONE. PERIOD. I was closet/cabinet/storage space deprived BEFORE I was stricken with this "dish-ease" that I caught on this forum. I went shopping after Halloween last year and bought 3 storage bins full of Halloween stuff and had to give up precious space in my MB closet to store it. Now I truly can't buy anything else until I build a garage, storage building, or add a LARGE storage room to my house. And my budget isn't allowing that in the near future. Sigh...

So.. hurry and show us the outside decorations. It's close enough for me! LOL

Welcome & keep the pics coming, we love them! I also love the bathroom decor, so pretty.

I knew Karen would be tempted by that snow village haunted house, it is so cute, and I'm tempted too, but know I have no more storage for anything like that.

I probably have more Halloween & Fall decorations than for any other season.

I love those two tall, white pumpkin people, they are neat!

I am with you, Yatcher - its so tempting when all these nice pics get posted but I dont have any space for anything more at all! I just have to keep telling myself that a few dozen times now, LOL.

Thank you all for the nice welcome & comments! I'm always drawn to holiday items, especially now that my boys are beginning to "get it." It's so fun to have them look at everything and get excited about it. I'll have to hit the sales to add some more for next year! I'll look forward to seeing all of your things, too!

I love how you set up your little village. That's always fun for kids to look at. I hadn't been thinking about Halloween yet...but now you've got me thinking I'd better get going!!

I love your Halloween house (but everyone here knows I'm crazy about those small villages and also glasses, lol). It's a really cute display you did on the buffet!

I also like the design of your Fall wreath as well as your Halloween tree! You did a great job with your decorations. And after having just seen a small part of it, I think I would really like your bathroom!
