How are you decorating your yard and doors for fall/Halloween
Comments (10)Ooh, a Christmas Tree Shop. I'm so jealous, I wish they had one out here at the western end of the state. :( And I'm not driving to Syracuse from Buffalo to shop at one. I have to get going -- haven't done anything yet. If it weren't for the hardy mums I'd have only the impatiens for color right now, and the ornamental kale I bought last fall. Didn't think they were supposed to be hardy, but it overwintered just fine out in the flower bed. I have to swap out my leaf flag for my jack o'lantern flag, and my apple and plum basket slate welcome sign for the indian corn one. I still have to buy pumpkins, and some corn stalks to cover the lamp post and the clematis that isn't blooming on it anymore this year. Then I just toss my inherited halloween collection around the house indoors, and call it a day. If I'm feeling ambitious, I'll throw some garden stakes in and rope off the curved flower bed so that the trick or treaters don't step in it and trample the plants (and knock over the dry stack rock wall and break a foot in the process), but that's about it....See MoreHalloween Decorating Party
Comments (8)Welcome Azzalea! Oh my, what a FUN thing to do!! A Halloween Party in AUG. Love it! Sounds like all of you made such cute things as well as had a great time. (age is irrelevant for things like this.) I have the same problem as Party and Seas...no one to do stuff with. They are all HERE on the Forum and Janie must've lost the bus keys to pick us up and head for your place! :o) I have a feeling it would be so neat to meet you. I'm glad you joined us here, tho, and hope you can post pictures. hugs, Karen...See MoreMy Halloween decorations
Comments (15)Thank you all. Jane I bought the tree (for $5) and put the lights on it. The fireplace in the den has a little electric stove in front of it. I think they call it a holigraphic flame, it looks pretty good, I think. Althought the flames don't always show up well in pictures. Jan, glad you came out of lurkerdom. We got that little ghost light when we lived on an AF base in Alaska. Nearly everyone had one, LOL. Alaska was kind of remote way back then. Thank you Lee, Sybil, and Lynn. Luvs, I do make the baskets myself, I sort of stuff things into until, I think they look okay. And I will turn those jack-o-lanterns back into pumpkins and add a cornucopia after Halloween. Thank you all for lookin'. - Gail...See MoreShare fall & Halloween outdoor decor!!
Comments (24)I have a carport (who in the South doesn't?) attached to my house. I refuse to let my hubby put a car in there though because I use it like an outdoor room. I put a pretty light fixture in the ceiling and I got an old, not-good-enough-for-indoor oriental rug to cover part of the poured cement floor. Where we live it's between two mountains so the ground is really hilly. The front part of the carport is at ground level and it's about 2 1/2' off the ground at the back side, which contains the door to my mud room. It's really cute and cozy out there. I have a rustic loveseat and an early American end table out there. I use four strings of Hallmark Boo Blinker pumpkin lights to string around the outside edges of the room and the two support pillars I cover with cornstalks. Then I put pumpkins and three big (10") pots of mums at the bottom of each cornstalk pillar. I buy all different color mums. I think it looks nice with the variety of colors instead of sticking to certain ones. Then I get two bales of hay and use one to make a scarecrow (and my hubby's old jeans and flannel shirt) and the other for the scarecrow to sit on. His head is a pumpkin. I also have other cute little Halloweenie decorations sitting around and then after Halloween is over I bring in the ones that are very obviously Halloween and leave the rest out there till Thanksgiving. (Don't get me started on the rest of the house we'll be here forever!) Then like a couple of big overgrown kids on Thanksgiving weekend my mother-in-law and I spend the weekend taking down the fall stuff and putting up the beginning of the Christmas decorations. :)...See More
