Windows Design Dilemma Bedroom

Window treatment help!

I am at a loss for ideas for window treatments in my master bedroom. The windows are all varying heights mixed with the vaulted / sloped ceilings - I am struggling. Any ideas? We just moved in (please ignore the mess/boxes :) ) and the windows in here are throwing me for a loop!

Another source to look is jcp.com. I noticed they have 3 blackout drapes (one in regular home WT section and 2 in clearance) in the longer length at low prices--if the colors work for you (always the challenge). If you can't find the grommet style that might be easier to pull open/shut on a daily basis, you might consider ring clips since they slide easily. If the hem looks too challenging to alter on rod pocket styles, you can cut off the top and rehem that quite easily. IMHO they'll look best if you have them full length, rather than end at the window sill. It seems like that would really detract from the effect of the window. Even your inspiration pic, while really cute, seems to just miss the mark a bit on the curtains. They're ok I guess, but full-length would have been better--IMHO. You may have to get extra panels to give the fullness you want across the window when they're closed unless you go with custom widths. Good luck with your project! Ok, if you want a Roman Shade I would just do one to cover the whole bank of windows. One for the 3 window and one for the 2 window. How tall are your ceilings? Many people will mount the Roman shades higher than the window casings and allow the bottom of the Roman shade to cover just a small portion of the window, allowing for more light. You could do a wooden blind underneath for privacy and light control. In this case the Roman shade does not have to be operational but stationary and the blinds underneath will be what you use for privacy and light control. Bamboo blinds under a Roman shade are also a nice option.

Hard to understand why a northeastern exposure would get a lot of sun. Perhaps a small amount in the early morning in midsummer, but it has to be out of the sun after that. If it's more eastern, than northern, a little more morning sun. My solution would be to plant small shade trees not to far from those windows.

I love the dressers where they are! But to your question: Dark wood slat blinds would be classic but if you want curtains, your room is so traditional there's nothing wrong with having one very wide panel that hangs to the far side of each window only. If it were me I'd do short curtains, just a bit down past the sill -- again because I think it more fits the tradition of the room. But some people go beserk if curtains don't touch the floor. Personally I would do a dark deep color, or something in a rich dark pattern of olives, rust, caramel, burgundy, chocolate... velvet Your room looks like a great place to sleep.

This will depend how much darkness you require to sleep. Where there is issue of privacy....etc. Or other.

For me? Nothing at all on the small boxy windows. If you need light control? You need a custom shade for the transom, shades mounted on the doors. I would skip any decorative "panels" /curtains. You're not going to be able to click and buy anything. Find a Hunter Douglas dealer in your area, and ask for an in house visit.

To me? When an architect does something like this? He ought to be taken to a woodshed, and beaten senseless. Total OVER DESIGN. : ( with no consideration of function within the structure.But geeeee whiz. So cute from the putside??

IMO I'm in the northeast USA. Last night the temp went down to 30F and we had our first snow of a few inches. The wind was fierce last night. Regarding insulation - are you talking about the curtains, or my home insulation in general? My heating situation is insane and a very long story that I can't get into here! I have wall to wall carpeting all over. All of my window treatments are lined. My condo was built in 1980, and I don't know what the insulation is in my walls. I'm on a concrete slab (no basement), so that helps in the heat retention department. I put those plastic kits from a home center on all my windows - even my huge slider. I have sheers on 75% of my windows. You may not think sheers make a difference, but in my opinion they do. I put the plastic between the sheer and the curtain (so the sheer is closest to the window). Years ago I attended a class from my local Cornel Cooperative Extention to find out all the things I can do to keep the home energy efficient all year 'round. A gigantic rug with a rug pad will keep your place warm as well. I am a frugal person, so I make sure to bundle up in the home in the winter. Also I put weather stripping all around all the doors and windows of my home. In the winter I keep the curtains drawn all the time for warmth, except for when there is a sunny and unseasonable warm day for the winter. That may be too much for people who need light and have SAD (Seasonal affective disorder). One of my friends has that, and she has a really cool light box that she uses. Look at all your doors and windows as heat escape hatches.
