Help me get rid of my boobs!

I have 3 boob lights in a lower level den/family room that need to go. Ceilings are 9', so I'm thinking about a casual chandelier in front of the front door (the one with the blinds), but not sure what to do with the other two. Any suggestions? (FYI the boob lights aren't visible in the preview photos, but if you click on each photo below you will see them).

I would look for a semi flush mount light that works for your space. Not sure on your style, but this is example below. Also, for your entry door, consider removing blinds and replace with a blind insert with glass that mounts right on your door (Home Depot has), and will give door a more finished look with all the functionality of working blinds.

Swap the others out for LED wafer ’recessed lighting. Clean and neat. Second option is finding a flushmount but i think the LEDs would be better because your lights just seem to be just random situated on the ceiling. A flushmount will only accentuate that.

First, don't bother with herbicides as they generally don't hurt the bamboo, but can do a lot of damage to other plants. Second, the advice of the American Bamboo Association is to keep watering it and cutting it down until you kill it by exhausting it, which supposedly takes a couple of years. I've never tried this and I'm skeptical that it will work over such a large expanse with such a well-established root system. I believe your only recourse is further digging. I have a lot of bamboo around my yard, some with barriers and some without, When uncontained bamboo escape into my yard, my tool of preference is not a shovel. I use a pickaxe and start chopping with the pointy end along the line of survival shoots. Then I use the pointy end to pry the rhizome out. Sometimes, if I am in the middle of a rhizome, I just cut it in half and start working on each of the two pieces separately as it is easier to pry out rhizome that has a loose end. When I get a foot or two or rhizome out of the ground, I start pulling on it, and sometimes it sort of "unzips" from the ground for many feet. This is where it would help to have a friend with some upper body strength. Also be aware -- when wrestling out a piece or prying hard -- that you do not want to be off-balance if the rhizome snaps: I've had a couple of spectacular tumbles until I learned this. Because the roots are tenacious, prying them out will do some damage to the lawn. I always have some extra dirt around to fill in where I need to and to help the grass grow back. I'm sorry that I don't have a magic solution, but at this point I think you'll just have to keep up your removal efforts. I think the other things you have done with trenches sound good.

I'm with you on not sharing. I nearly lost ALL my herbs due to these and other caterpillars. One set were really beautiful - green with black and red spots/stripes. But I wanted my plants more. I used the BT powder I got from an organic dealer and it worked well. Alas, it was something different that infected my tomatoes, and none survived. My neighbor has a plum tree that was getting attacked by birds. She decided to 'share' so was eating them sour just so she could get them before the birds. Then I told her it was the grackles eating them....and she had our ripe peaches (we put a net over the peach tree) and decided this race to get them before the grackles was maybe not such a good idea....

Patrick, i call them water mocassins, but in reality they are cotton mouths. i do see a lot of people refer to ALL snakes as either a rattler or a mocassin, but i usually know the difference. :) i have 2 90 pound labs so they probably run off most of the snakes. i cannot stand cats, so i really do not want to go there. as to the catch and release or catch and kill, i prefer they be moved elsewhere if possible, but either one is really fine with me. i am not worried about non-posionous snakes, although they probably would cause my wife to hurt herself if she came up on one. hopefully this weekend i can get some more shrubs removed or shaped and burn a large limb pile. i think the biggest attraction for the snakes right now is the frogs around my house. hopefully i can get rid of the bugs, which will make the frogs go elsewhere, which in turn will cause the snakes to look elsewhere for food. i do not know if i mentioned it earlier, but both snakes had recently eaten rather large frogs. that is probably why they did not run off before i approached, they had their bellies full and just did not feel up to moving!

I know of someone who left a frozen (not for long!) chicken in her trunk for a WEEK. In the summer in south FL! YUCK I would take the mat out of the trunk and hose it down really well, maybe use a bit of dish soap, rinse really well & hang it up to dry. Wipe down all of the hard surfaces with hot water with a tiny bit of bleach. Check the place where the spare tire is, make sure nothing ran down in there too. Good Luck, at least it wasn't a chicken!

LOL those trul are. As for your lighting do not buy integrated LED fixtures there are lots of nice looking fixtures where you can just use LED bulbs . I like a drum shade but we need to see the spaces fully. IMO all those louvered doors need to go that is all I see in that pic.

The louvered doors are pretty awful, I agree - but they are a necessary evil as that is a utility closet for the furnace and water heater. :-(

The louvered doors look fine! They serve a purpose. I believe the comment, above, was a suggestion for the back exterior door with the hanging blinds. I always found it difficult to cover a french door or a full glass door with something for privacy but that also permitted light to enter. I like the suggestions for semi flush lights vs. a chandelier.

Thanks for the tip about the between-the-glass blinds! We had blinds like that in our previous home, but they were part of the door. I didn’t realize you could also get them as an add-on product.

With 9' ceilings you should easily be able to find a semi-flush fixture that fits with your style. Love the title of your post. :-)
