Stupid Southern Weather
Comments (13)I feel your pain. I just hate it when my favorite stuff blows over, but I just figure it's only my own fault and if I don't want it to happen again next time I better be securing it better than that. Just think of it as a trial run. Good advise about putting things in concrete or drive a stake in the ground and secure to that. (Not that I have set one thing in concrete, yet, myself, but when I decide where I want something permanantly I will, the guys do it all the time when they need a post to stay where they put it, it's not that hard.) Push on them and test them to see. Storm winds are so strong, see if they'll stand up to it. As my DH says "We're going to get weather, whether we like it or not." So it's up to us to prepare for that. What ever you put out you have to test it as you go, and still theres always something that blows down or gets broke. My stuff I know there's going to be cats climbing on it and big dogs bumping into it, not to mention hurricane winds, torrential downpours, baking hot sun and an occasional tornado. That's a good idea about the dog tie downs too, those things stay in the ground really good. "Hippies Use Back Door" that's a good one! Gonna have to make me one of them. I secure little things with wire or string when I can, or make sure nothing real good is directly under something heavy, so if it falls your not going to break one thing with another. A couple bird houses and wind chimes (them things really fly, I have some I've never seen again) I try to take down when it's real windy. I envy your rain, we are in bad drought conditions here also. Since the 1st of the year only one rainfall about an inch! Several people in the area have had to lower their wells. I'm about 30 mi. Comments (36)My Mme. de Sombreuil came from Vintage in March, 2013. However, my rose has never had the overall flesh pink tone of the rose that you show, Jeri, from the Sacramento Cemetery Garden. It looks more like the rose "Legacy of the Richardson Family, which seems to be more of a shaded white. Of course location can make a difference, or temperature, so all three may be the same. It's a pity that Diane never posted a picture of her rose so that I could compare it to mine. In fact, I don't recall her having posted at all lately, which is a pity....See MoreIt’s Thursday 3/26
Comments (33)gsciencechick, my DD got an email from her school yesterday saying that if students choose, they can take whatever grade they currently have in a course or they can complete the work assigned and have the grades on that work incorporated into their final grade. She had come home prepared to write 3 final papers and probably will, but it was a great relief to her to know she had the option. ETA: I had this wrong. They are giving them the option of taking a pass (GPA neutral) if they choose. Some instructors seem to be giving students different options. My DH is not impressed that they don't seem to have a well-coordinated plan. Like feathers, we are pretty impressed with how her post secondary is responding at a time when many of the students are just focussed on packing up their lives on short notice and getting home to their families. My DH is an administrator at a post-secondary here so I know how much effort everyone is putting in to make this work. Thanks for all you are doing....See MoreFOTESS March Swap: It’s a GREEN Thing
Comments (175)Ruth, thank you for a fun green thing month...... RE: saving paper towels. I am always using in the kitchen/around the house...so, I rip them up and throw them in a metal container that I keep on the kitchen counter. The coffee grounds, scrap veggie stuff/whatever go in the container too. I do dump in my compost bins more than once a day. Last night, I was cleaning out my two kitchen junk drawers. Yes, most of the drawer went in to my metal container....lots of paper stuff. Slow Friday night for me LOL!!!! My sister bought a metal container (with lid) for this very purpose on Amazon, to keep by her kitchen sink. It is to small for me. Happy weekend FOTESSERS....Enjoy more March Madness (basketball). Love March Madness!! Annie...See Moreshaxhome (Frog Rock, Australia 9b)
