From housee From housee From housee Here are a few pics of the house we just built. Sorry for the quality. They were taken when it was quite dark. We used stone on the front with shakes. But to the left of the front entrance, in the covered area, as well as the entire back of the house, we used hardi plank with shakes near the top . We also used the hardi plank/shake combo on the carriage house. We did not use real stone for any of the outside work. We used the fake stuff which saved tons of money because of the ease of installation. If you click on the pics they will get larger. By the way we were not quite finished building when these pics were taken. We are missing the balcony on the front.

jojoco- Looks great, and you must have a climate that tests the limit of this stuff. That's not to say that there isn't an occasional batch of siding that is defective, but, in searching online for reports of problems, I haven't found large numbers of people who were dissatisfied with this product. And since it is widely used, I'd expect Google to turn up thousands or tens of thousands of complaints if there was a basic deficiency with this material. A few people who reported delamination problems were in locales where they had large drifts of snow that were up against the siding for months at a time. I'm curious to know if you allow drifts to sit against your siding or not.

This is a small house. The right elevation depicts a living room window, master shower and 2nd floor bedroom. Small lot with homes on either side so I wasn't too concerned with the look of the sides. Agree, elevations aren't detailed enough. The builder and I acknowledge that. House is southern facing on small lot and we actually do have many homes with dark roofs here in FL. I'm definitely not using stucco panels. It will be the "usual" stucco typically used in FL. How about a medium toned brick on the front, say near or at the botttom of the window line, stucco above that and then Hardie above the front porch? Then with the stucco sides it wouldn't be such a drastic switch from all Hardie front to then stucco sides?

Well Robin, I've been on this site for a long time now and you used to get your britches in a hitch when someone mentioned they were paying $200k for a house, so I made a tongue in cheek comment. ALLOT of GC's KNOW that most people have 'no' idea of what things costs and they take advantage of that!!!! They do this to put ALLOT of profit in their pockets!!!!!!!!!!!!! I KNOW this as a FACT!!!!! Since you know this for a fact, please share your FACTS. Real facts and not your opinions. Give us examples. You're very good at using exclamation points and capital letters and spelling things incorrectly, but not once have you backed up any of your statements with actual facts. It's a shame they do this but it's normal business for them. It's a black eye on them IMO. I'm 'sure' you 'won't' answer......... Wrong, I answered. And in reality the real black eye is someone coming here and spouting their opinion as if it were a fact when it's quite clear they don't have a clue what they are talking about and can't even back it up with actual facts. And it's even more of a shame that you continue to come off as uneducated.
