I erroneously selected a outwardly pink color for my attic office and when I returned home that night I hated it. My painter suggested one of BMs whites with pink undertone - Atrium white - and it was perfect. Should have checked with him BEFORE he painted as he was back changing it the next day. The point I am trying to make is that if you go for a pink, the most subtle color on a strip may end up being too much. Such was the case with my first choice which ended up looking like Pepto Bismol. Sue

If you're going the vanilla bean color, you might want to try BM Papaya. House Beautiful describes it as: "The most enduring color I've found is Benjamin Moore's Papaya, which looks like homemade vanilla ice cream with a little caramel in it. My whole apartment is Papaya! I love it with the blues, greens, and blue-greens of the sea and sky, and with various soft warm pinks. There's nothing edgy about it, which suits me fine. atillery9, your bedroom is one of my favorites here, and I do like the look of curtains. I haven't been a fan of curtains for my own house because (1) I have trouble committing to color/pattern in anything expensive (I don't mind plain white but would likely do that only in summer), (2) we have allergies and I feel like I'd have to work extra hard to keep them allergen-free, and (3) we have five cats. While we don't allow cats in this particular room and usually keep the door closed, I can't help but feel cat hair and dander could still collect there. I like a roller shade if used with curtains. I like their functionality and room darkening ability. We have a higher end shade shop here where I have bought roller shades in the past I was very happy with, so I could go that route, too, if we were to decide to get curtains.

First of all, do you want to keep the wood tone on the walls OR go with a light color such as light blue or even white? Nothing brightens up a room and brings in the outdoors as these two colors do. If you go with white paint on the walls, I would suggest you paint the ceiling a neutral light blue to bring in the color of the lake and the sky. Then, you might add a bedspread in a royal blue and white window pane plaid with large white squares inside the royal blue grids and complete the look with sheets and pillow cases in the light blue of the ceiling and royal blue or navy blankets. Red or yellow in small accessories would make a refreshing accent for the room. A textured area rug in dark brown or dark gray might make a nice backdrop for the blue and white linens.
