the night before holiday meal...
Comments (6)Oh so looking forward to a bacon burger or a BLT. I do have some of our salt cod soaking, but that is for a bacalao salad and cod cakes for friday. A note for NYC/NJ Fairway shoppers...they have lovely big fillets of salt cod right now. The usual ones they have are fine, from Nova Scotia i think, blue label. But these are huge and big does mater in this instance. Slice into 1lb portions, wrap and freeze. Good price and a great winter meal. I just did a salt cod weekend for a recent family reunion....See MoreFirst Thanksgiving prep in new (still small) kitchen-Review
Comments (2)The deep sink is amazing. People always talk about bathing kids in there, but I found it useful for the turkey! (and to hide all the dirty dishes after dinner of course)!...See MorePrepping tips for Thanksgiving - potatoes, etc.
Comments (13)I do almost everything the day before. Peel potatoes and keep them covered in water in the fridge. I am making the stuffing,Mac and cheese, cranberry sauce, devilled eggs, topping for my olive bread, various dips, etc.the day before, stashed in the fridge, and cooked in the oven at my moms house.Everything except the turkey, gravy and shrimp will at least be started before the day itself. My mom is hosting. I usually cook the whole meal, but i have discovered that when i cook it in MY kitchen, alone, there is less opportunity for my family to irritate me,which is something they greatly enjoy doing , and therefore less chance of my holiday being ruined,as it often is by such behavior. They will still try,as it amuses them. My mom is making the pies and rolls ahead of time and freezing them. My sister is making sweet potatoes and some other veggies, probably the day before, along with some "special" stuffing, mashed potatoes and devilled eggs for her husband, who has just been put on a strict pork, beef, nut, and dairy free diet for the next year, poor thing. He's miserable....See MoreThanksgiving prep, what did you do so far?
Comments (58)I'm keeping Thanksgiving low key this year. Thursday meal will be just me, DH and our daughter. They have simple tastes so no need to go overboard. Frozen turkey has almost defrosted after being in frig four days, so that's good to roast tomorrow. Bought a bag of cranberries today. We will have turkey, gravy, cornbread, baked potatoes, broccoli (plain steamed), and cranberry sauce. Daughter might make us a pecan pie when she arrives tomorrow. We're already planning a turkey soup & sandwich leftover meal with the rest of my family here in town, and then with DH's family a few hours south. Today I bought a frozen turkey breast to ensure we have enough leftovers to share :-)...See Moreamylou321
