How to get bad smell out of granite

The granite in my kitchen has an ammonia smell. This is new. We have lived here for 8 yrs. Some kind of brown sauce was spilled and left overnight. We have cleaned w lysol wipes, bleach, majic erasers, special granite cleaner. No luck. It is def the counter. You can put your nose close to it and tell. Plus, it's making my house smell. Help!

Maybe look up a poultice that you put on wet and allow to dry before removing, to pull out the stain and its odor.

Some kind of brown sauce? Don't you know what you spilled on your counter?

No, I didn't spill it. Someone else in the house did but no one is claiming it. It was wiped up before I saw it but smelled as soon as I came downstairs.

I have 3 dogs & our livingroom upholstery used to smell despite bathing the dogs every othe week. We used to have it professionally cleaned quarterly which did rid the odor for the mean time but then dog got allergies & we coudln't apply all those chemicals. Mothballs are made from naphtha, which is toxic to humans and animals. Some brands are cedar-scented or mixed with cedar. If just mothballs were used for something in the house and then removed, the odor should disappear within a few days. Look in the attic. People used to strew mothballs in the attic for rodent control. Maybe they had rats or squirrels up there. If so, the smell will go away after the mothballs have dissolved, which could take a while. Another possibility is that they had fleas in the house, and vacuumed up a few mothballs to kill fleas in the vacuum cleaner bag. This will definitely scent the air for a while. Hope it's better by now!

Try "Nature's Miracle". You can buy large bottles of it, maybe even a formula for washing machines. The last time I was in Pet Surplus I saw a line of Nature's Miracle products on the shelf but didn't really check them out. I know the liquid worked wonders on my comforter after the stray tom cat peed on it. And it is stuffed with wool! I put some in a spray bottle and soaked the stain with it. Then I left the comforter to air dry, the smell went away but some of the yellow stain remained. So I just left it draped over a chair in the bedroom ever since, and this has been a couple months ago. I wasn't taking any chances by folding it up and putting it away in the armoir until ALL the odor was gone. Even better would be to hang it out in the sun all day - if we ever get any sun.

If you can wash the cover, try adding vinegar. If that and fresh air and sunshine don't get the smell out, I'd toss it. It could be mold and that's not worth it for anybody or any pet.

Mix with a teaspoon right on the counter where the smell is: 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1/4 cup water. Don't rub, just let mixture sit there for 1 - 2 hours. Then wipe it off with a paper towel and rinse off residual with a paper towel. I say paper towel in order to eliminate any possibility of a smell from a cloth or from the detergent the cloth was washed in getting onto the counter. After the area of the counter is dry, if the smell is still there, repeat. It should be gone if not by the first application, then by the second application.
