New Hampshire Hostas nursery - anyone been there?
Comments (10)narcnh, DH and I stopped there yesterday. As borninmaine stated, they have one greenhouse dedicated to hostas, about 2/3 of that are 3-4 inch pots, and the back 1/3 are bigger (maybe 3 gallon) pots. They all looked healthy and there was a good variety. I wasn't as impressed with the shrubs and perennials. They were just OK. We didn't get a chance to look at the annuals, because it started down pouring. I will probably go back at some point, definitely if I am looking for hostas. What I didn't like, about the perennials and shrubs, was that many of them looked like last year's leftovers. I didn't speak with anyone there, besides a friendly hello from the owner (I am assuming). They seem to have a pretty good rating on Garden Watchdog, as far as orders arriving well packaged and healthy. I am not sure where in NH you are located, but if the shipping cost is close to what you would be spending in gas, I would probably go the online route. If you are going to be in the area, it is worth stopping by for a look. I hope this is helpful....See MoreFavorite NE nursery/on-line nursery?

Comments (17)Lol, ditto re mall comment! DONNA, I think it's really nice, and kind of you to show interest and that you care about wanting to become more familiar with us, also whether we are happy with our suppliers and their stock, and in particular with Shades of Green. Thank you for that. Because of this thread I've learned a bit more about a nursery I've yet to visit or order from. Positive feedback! :-)...See MoreOn line hosta nursery
Comments (12)I have been experimenting with online nurseries this year. I have ordered from Hallson in the past, and they are great. I placed two orders in February. One large (for me anyway) order from Naylor. Over $150. They were scheduled to ship the end of May. When I did not get them, I emailed to see what had happened. They said they were behind because all the east coast people who had placed orders for earlier in the month, had put their orders on hold because of their bad weather, and wanted them now. So, they were getting their plants, and the people who had originally requested end of May, went to the back of the line. Okay. But...they would ship mine next week. Which they did. When they emailed that they had shipped, they informed me that one of the hosta (which I ordered in February) was out of stock, so they sent something else. But not to worry, because they sent a "better" plant. Someone else posted earlier that Naylor had also substituted on them too. When I got my order, I was surprised, every plant was small. One was so small, I actually said "Are they kidding?" to my husband. They were not cheap. I should have complained. I didn't. I have read over and over again, how great Naylor is on this forum, but that was not my experience. I would never order from them again. I also ordered at the same time from New Hampshire Hostas. They were much cheaper, but the plants were all larger than Naylor. And.....they shipped when they said they would ship. I was a little concerned because when I cleaned off the potting medium there were a lot of dead roots in the center. But two months later, they are all doing great. Then I tried Green Mountain. Big healthy plants, on time, and great prices. I know. TMI....See Moreundertheoaksgardener7b
