Oh wow I just got 11 also and don’t know why it took me so long either. I was completely on the right track, except for when I got hung up on ”power plant.” (I’m similarly stuck on power point for 12)

First run through and I did ok. I think I have them all except 9, 11 and 12.

(I’m similarly stuck on power point for 12)

It must be awful when you can’t move on from something, unable to go anywhere.

It might help to think in plurals for most of the clues.

    I agree floral

Plurals? My answers must be all wrong then.

Well, I guess they could be plural, but I don't think they have to be.

I'm pretty sure of all my answers except #9, trying to come up with something else for that one.

    Me too...had #6 & #9 the same. ♥ Fun!

Finally got 11 but still stuck on 9 and 12. I think if i change my answer to 6 i can use the former answer for 9 and i have it.

Still no clue for 7&12, second guessing 9.

ETA just reading comments and realized I have 6 and 9 the same also. Now I’m def unhappy with my 9.

I’m so jealous that everyone has 11! I feel like I’ve said ’para’ with every single possibility and still coming up empty. Maybe I’ll gain new perspective in the morning.

I think I have them all now - thanks for the hints 😊

Missed rox’s hint for 12 - got it! Now for 7 and probably 9…

    I don't have #11 either or #7. I suspect I have a poor guess for #12.

As well as thinking in plurals think in sounds, not spellings.

I changed my answer for 6 and gave the old answer to 9. But I'm still clueless about 11 and 12.

Still nothing for 11. Why do I have a feeling I'm going to kick myself when I see the answer!

Meanwhile, some hints for others since we're almost at the 24 hour mark:

For those struggling with 7, when I to to places like Paris and NY, I like to take in all of the sounds and .....other things....to add to my enjoyment.

For those struggling with 9, there are actually a couple of answers -- one might be the same as what you came up with for 6; but the one I settled on is actually the verb form of what you might do at that other word. I'd tell you something.....additional.....but wouldn't want to completely give it away!

lettersatoz, I’m sure something will trigger your thoughts and you’ll get 11.

An idea might just drop from the sky.

Well, DUH!!!! Thanks, roxsol - got it. I guess I know my plant terminology about as well as I know my birds, so it wasn't something that I'd have gotten without that hint. Cute.

bpath, still no movement on 12, eh?

    last modified: 4 years ago

Got 11 finally, thanks. I'll put all the clues together and talk 12 through with whoever joins me at the kitchen table this morning.

Well, DH was no help on 12. I just now thought I had an answer thanks to an earlier hint, but I don’t really like it. (Actually, there are a couple that I think work too hard.)

This is my dubiously worded and I hope okay clue to 12.

Bpath don't know if this will help you but Para added to what two of the people are doing by what they are saying. Para____

Well, I think I have 12 but DH and I were arguing about the kid’s abilities.

^ Truthfully.....the picture in 12 might work just as well if it were a pet instead of a kid.

I like roxsol's clue for 12..clever. I'm not good at giving "clues"... ☺

    last modified: 4 years ago

I think 12 would've been easier if the 2 people (kids?) speaking were shown with their fingers crossed behind their backs.

As usual I am stuck on one no one else seems to be having trouble with....10

patriciae_gw -- did you hear the one about the string walking into a bar? No? Well, I don't remember the joke word for word, but let me see if I can remember it enough to summarize it for you.....

patriciae_gw, think of a word that describes the condition of that wire in #10. Now preface a form of that word with the required 'para'.

Hope that helps without being too specific.

#10....a pair of blue jeans with a tattered hole

I find the single word puzzles like this one and the birds easier than the ones where the answer is a phrase because the latter are often specifically referencing aspects of American culture which I’m not familiar with.

    #10 A couple of French strawberries. 😄

Oh geeze, thanks to you all.

Oh good grief. #12 shouldnt have been that hard. I guess I was using literal words too much.

    last modified: 4 years ago

Same here at first. I quickly realized that the images have virtually no meaning in relation to the answers - other than sound. It's hard to keep that in mind too.

Ok, well now that I've given it away, I'll tell you the joke:

A piece of string walks into a bar and walks up to the counter.

The bartender says, "Sorry mate, we don't serve pieces of string in here, get lost."

Upset, the piece of string walks out the door. A sudden thought strikes him. He ties himself in a knot and messes his hair up.

He walks back into the bar and approaches the counter. The bartender says, "Oi, aren't you that piece of string from before...?"

"No," says the piece of string, "I'm a frayed knot."

    🤣

    I love that joke!

bpath, me too! My dad used to tell jokes like that. He loved puns. 💕

    A Dad joke.

Floral gave it away talking about these kinds of puzzles. Was that on purpose?

I think of that punchline every time I say or hear the words 'afraid not' 😄

And there's a couple of others as well: 'driving me nuts' about a pirate, and 'no idea' about a deer...

I'm pretty sure you did real good with this one :-)

    1 Paragraphs
    2 Paradise (dice)
    3 Parapets
    4 Paraffins
    5 Paradigms (dimes)
    6 Paradox (docs) or paramedics
    7 Parasites (Sights)
    8 Parables (bulls)
    9 Paramours (moors)
    10 Paraphrase (frays)
    11 Parachutes (shoots)
    12. Paralyze (lies)

Well, I never got 9! I like it!

I was wrong about 9 - thought it was paradox (docks), which doesn't make too much sense, now that I think about it.

Got all the rest. This one was fun 🙂

    last modified: 4 years ago

This was a real fun one, Jasdip.

I had both paradox (docs) and paramedics for 6 and paramours (moors) or paradox (docks) for 9.

I went with paradox and paramours. 🙂

    Thanks, Jasdip

I got all of them except #12.

With help on 10 I had the same answers as roxsol. I liked this one. Thank you

Missed 7, got too hung up on the Frenchness I think! Might have gotten 9 if they were in the middle of the water tied to moorings as opposed to loosely tied to what looks to me is a dock! (Oh and if I knew the word paramour.) I did get 12 but only due to the hint, as I’m not sure I see any indication that anyone is lying.

Despite my difficulties this was my favorite of the times that jasdip has moved the cheese.

Did not get 9 or 12.

Got them all on first pass because they're single words and the number of candidate words is restricted. Much easier for me than the usual phrases. Although paraffins in the plural strikes me as a bit unusual. Thanks for the puzzles, Jasdip.

I had 'paraffin' for #4. Just now Googled 'paraffins' (it sounds strange to me), & learned it is an actual word, science related.

Had 'paramedics" for #6 and 'paradox' for #9. That picture just doesn't bring the word 'moor' to mind at all.

Had a hard time making sense of the hints for #12, finally decided the child sitting on the floor was a little girl, so the two pointing their fingers saying 'HE did it' were lying.

This was a really fun puzzle, and it taxed my brain in a whole new way from what the other puzzles have. Thanks, Jasdip.
