Paint Home Decorating Design Dilemma

What paint color for my front door??

I'm having an awful time deciding on a color for our front door. The screen door was originally brown and I hated it so I painted it to match the red interior door but it's much, much brighter than I like.

I want the door to harmonize with the siding and brick, but also to stand out enough to make a focal point. I'm currently thinking a deep purple. Maybe. The trickiest part is that the door color abuts brown wood trim on one side and the red bricks on the other so it has to work with both very well.

BTW we're not looking to replace the screen door or paint the siding or bricks. Someday we'll update the entry area but that's not a project for today.

Here's the original brown that matches the rest of the house:

Here's after I painted it the same color as the interior door (I swear they're the same color even though they look nothing alike when you look at them in the picture or real life. Drat the tricks light plays):

And here I used one of the online paint visualizers with what I'm kind of thinking. Note, I also virtually added a strip of brown trim to the right side of the door to see if that helps balance things out.

Does the purple work? Any other suggestions??

I would prefer a sage green or the gray of the brick mortar

I like the red/orange that you painted the door. Reminds me of Cherokee Red that Frank Lloyd Wright used on brick houses as well as other things.

Your house looks more craftsman than country. Especially the design on the windows in the door and sidelights. That said, if the doors and sidelights are wood, I’d rather see the paint stripped and just stain the door a nice medium to dark stain. If they are not wood and need to be painted, I’d go with an olive green, but I actually like the yellow they are now and you could even go more into a mustard. The trim should not be painted to match the door unless you also paint the trim around all the windows. The window trim currently matches the trim around the door, which looks fine IMO. I’d even say strip and stain the window trim if that’s what you do with the door. Just my two cents. Hope you find a solution that you LOVE! Good luck!

I like the color they are now. Is that stained wood? I guess you could paint them a bold salmon color, which would blend well with peaches and cream. Or navy. Is that synthetic green carpet on the entryway? It’s not very attractive, in this picture anyway.

I also like the current color better than purple. I think the purple clashes with the brick. Olive green?

What a cozy charming home! I immediately thought of something in a shade of green. I would pick something muted and not loud.. Keep us posted!

I like the red/orange. But if you want to change, I agree with others to go with a sagey green. No to purple.

Count me as another who likes the red/orange. The purple doesn't flatter the brick or vice versa (and I really like purple). Green or Blue-green could definitely work.

Such a charming house.

A few colors I think look nice — of course lighting will play a role.

This is Amy Howard English Garden paint. I’m mainly just wanting to show an earthy green and am using this as an example:

Sherwin Williams Stillwater, an earthy blue:

This is nice, Dulux Jube. Has a sort of Victorian feel.

I would never paint this brick, glad you aren’t, and think you’re right about a harmonizing color. Nothing garish. This house has so much character!

I wasn’t able to find a front door in Crisp Romaine that deco posted, so did it solid just to get an idea:

Thank you all for the kind words and great suggestions!! I had passed over green early on but I like the look of a couple of those shades. We have basically no blue inside so I think that might look out of place.

I'm glad so many people like the red because I may have missed my painting window this season -- perhaps I'll grow to like the brightness of it during the long dark winter...
