Paint Kitchens Design Dilemma

If the walls in my kitchen have a blue undertone (behr silver mine) should I be trying to find a cabinet color with the same undertone? I’m doing grey cabinets, probably in a BM color but having trouble figuring out the rule of thumb for complementary colors. Wondering if anyone had advice. Thank you!

Usually you pick wall color last, as there are millions of paint colors out there and fewer of other things. Do you have counters, flooring, and/or backsplash that should be taken into account? Usually if you can get all of those on the same page, you can easily find a wall color to go as well.

Unfortunately this is an after the fact kitchen facelift so the walls are already done from a few years ago. I suppose if I pick a cabinet color that completely clashes, I can opt to paint the main floor over in a complementary color.

Marilee, I am trying to figure what color this is but can’t match it to anything specific. Do you know what it is by any chance? It’s a color from the color muse. I also like indigo batik but I can’t tell if it’s too dark/bright.

Of course - I have lost my mind as I’ve put them in 5 different spots different times of day and keep changing my mind 😂. The cabinets themselves are dated w the moldings - it was just too much to reface them all (and I’d want to add them to the ceiling). If I hadn’t pained my whole house grey already - I may have considered grey cabinets and a blue island or something, but I have bold furniture and light fixtures already so want to keep the kitchen clean looking

Can you show us pictures of your kitchen? There are more than 10 points of difference in LRV between Agreeable and Anew Gray, so that is a discernable difference. However, is it going to look good with your counters and flooring? Also, Anew Gray is darker than most people would choose. Do you have good lighting? I would be going lighter such as Incredible White. This is an off white with some gray, so it is far from a blinding white. Just something to consider.

Unless you’re doing expensive custom cabinets, the selections for the cabinet color will be your most limited choice. Start there. NOT with gray cabinets. Thats over and done.

No they aren’t custom. This is just a facelift so they are being painted.

@marge234 thank you! I will take a look at that. These are my countertops which are already installed.
