Would love help deciding which colors to use for a kitchen facelift
Comments (9)I do not lov black hardware on white cabinets IMO too much contrast but I would look for a white granite with some blue in it for the counter if you love the island it would IMO tie the space together and then just use stainless for the hardware so keep the cup pulls and achange the knobs.IMO keep the backspalsh simple you already have different finishes going on which BTW is always a bit hard to work with when counters or cabinets are all different ....See Morekitchen facelift HELP
Comments (12)I bought a house a couple years ago that has an older kitchen that isn't to my taste, but when you move, there are so many things to do, even in a well cared for house. I made a list of everything I wanted to do/change and then prioritized everything. The kitchen ended up at the bottom of the list because it's the most expensive project, and what I have is functional, even though I don't love it. Your kitchen does not have a bad layout and the appliances don't look too old. Tile countertops are less than ideal, but it would be a mistake to put new counters on old cabinets. I think you'll be able to function with it just fine for a couple years. Work on other things and save your money for your dream kitchen if you're going to be living there long enough to make that worthwhile. Living with it will help you figure out what you like and don't like so you make good decisions for the remodel....See MoreWould love suggestions on basement kitchen facelift!
Comments (13)in response to comments so far… Reason for the facelift: mainly just to look better and more updated. The counters are a cheap white vinyl and we’d like a smaller undermount sink. How we use the space: primarily when we entertain. We also used as our primary kitchen when we were remodeling our upstairs kitchen and we use it for family pizza/movie nights - oven for frozen pizza and microwave for popcorn. But it doesn’t get a ton of kitchen use - more of a bar and buffet area for food and drinks when entertaining. Additional notes: fridge is brand new and we won’t be replacing. It’s the smallest full-size option. We were planning to replace the floors throughout - including the tile in the kitchen - with an updated LVP but not sure we want to spend $10k on the basement floor that is OK as is…and thinking a minor kitchen facelift would be money better spent....See MoreKitchen facelift colors?
Comments (15)I agree with moving the fan from over the table, but I very much like having a ceiling fan in my living space - so perhaps relocate it to a seating area. Stainless is not ugly, and is a neutral that works with many color schemes, not just with gray. You do have to make sure that everything you choose does work together..... Are you planning on replacing your floor? Pinky beige tile can be a big stumbling block when redecorating, since everything does need to be harmonious with that major feature. Dark, cool toned grays usually aren't, but since the color renditions on my laptop aren't reliable, I can't judge in your space. I am a fan of color on cabinets - I think you can find some greens or blues that could harmonize with the floor, along with the wall colors, but I think you may need a stronger shade than pastel to look good with the dark grays that you have introduced. Simplest is as Lyn Nielson suggested, go with Alabaster or a shade that the paint store recommends as a step lighter or darker than Alabaster. Personally, I would take the easiest route and save my money to do the major remodel sooner than later, instead of haphazardly getting new counters, the work of painting the cabinet etc....See MoreTerri Pereira
