If you just want to replace the stationary showerhead with a handheld, the type of rough-in valve won't matter. But if you want both - to add a handheld in addition to the main showerhead - it is another story (valves, diverters, additional pipes, etc as already mentioned). Since the plumbers have done the rough-in, use the handles your ordered for them and get any handheld shower head from HD. It'll work fine. I've done it many times before (replaced mine again last week - and I have 50+ yr old fixtures). All you would be doing is unscrewing the main showerhead and screwing a new one onto the pipe that extends from the wall.

Sorry took so long to update....These are some photos of the bathroom, although it was still not completely finished at the time these were taken. The door and shelves have been stained a Carbon gray gel stain that almost perfectly matches the vanity. I used 8" white shiplap through out. The wall lights purchased through Lowe's online. The mirror purchased at Pier 1. The shower tile feature is carrera marble patterned, and a sea grey tile purchased at 'The Tile Shop' in Urbandale, Iowa. The laminate wood floors are from Home Depot in Mushroom? or the next grayer color. The vanity is 60" dark grey with carrera marble top, sink, and faucet included. I changed the knobs. I think I ordered from Houzz but can't remember. It's also on Wayfair. It all looks better in person than in the photos. I don't love that the toilet is right in the middle as you open the door but I didn't want the hassle of changing the layout/footprint of the bathroom. Overall I am happy with my choices. The mirror is a little fancy to me but my husband loved it and the design echos the patterned shower tile so I went with it.

I planned on SW Collonade Grey for the walls/ceiling, a “custom” blend walnut stain on my red oak floors and the same stain on the Alder beams above. Mantel will be the same walnut stain too. Sounds lime a lot of stain, but the kitchen is tile floor with white oak cabinets. What stage is your build - can finish selections be changed at this point? If so, I would recommend a consulation with Maria Killam (https://www.mariakillam.com) to ensure your finishes will be cohesive and provide the proper background for the overall look and feel you want to acheive in your new home. Your fireplace is fine, but will be a bossy element to work with (start reading Maria's blog posts and you'll see what I mean).

Grout is not waterproof, so a hole in the grout -- although it should be repaired -- is not a calamity leading to leaks. What prevents leaking is the hidden waterproofing under the pan...as long as it was done correctly.
