Bill --Tile shower question--leaky shower redone still leaking
Comments (2)Quite honestly, his insurance wasn't obligated to pay for it the FIRST time. Contractor liability insurance is there in case he destroys something in your home-- not if he performs HIS job poorly. IOW, his insurance would be responsible if that leak were to say, ruin a 5000.00 cherry dining room set in the formal dining room directly below the shower. But it would NOT be responsible for repairing the shower itself. As for how to proceed from here, I'd say you'd do well to get someone else in there. He's had two cracks at it, and screwed it up both times. Of course, he's getting paid for it, so why not? Job security! (which is the reason insurance companies usually won't cover their clients' work)...See MoreLooking for help with master tile dilemma after leak
Comments (12)Thanks guys. Yes sub flooring and all are coming out that's why they said floor is not salvageable. They checked all the moisture up the walls and that is as far as it went. We have just had all the moisture and mold remediated from a company that's does this. The leak was to the right of the shower so it went into out master closet rather than the tub side. We now have a reputable licensed contractor. Yes tearing out would be the best and starting over but we were hoping for another option. Thanks...See MoreCracked subway tile on shower curb after remodel
Comments (1)Much depends on HOW the curb (and everything else) was waterproofed. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that the curb was wood framed with possibly no waterproofing. I generally use cement or bricks to build my curbs and clad them with Kerdi or a similar waterproofing material. (Hydroban, etc.) Were it me, I would probably pull all the tile on the curb, ensure that it is waterproofed properly and use a solid curb such as marble or granite.......See MoreMusty smell after leak in shower/tub
Comments (3)The musty smell is from mold - some of which may make you ill. Good that you stopped the leak but without further investigation you don't know how much hidden damage there is. There are ways to remediate the smell but even a slow leak can damage underlayments and structures....See Morejodynelson987
