Windows Design Dilemma living room

Where should the living room go?

Hi everyone, new user here. My roommate and I can’t decide where to put our living room. We don’t really have any furniture right now but the space has a lot of windows so it’s challenging for us. House faces east (window at the end is the east facing window). First idea was to have couch up against window to the left. Then a friend suggested we place couch facing the wall space between the two windows where we would have a TV…but the back of the couch would be the first thing you see entering. There’s space for dining area as well. It’s a complete blank slate, any thoughts/ideas much appreciated!

IMO you figure out where you want the TV then arrange the furniture to face it and if you see the back of the sofa get a nice sofa table then that will be what you see.

Hang TV on wall between two windows, put fairly dark closeable curtains on the east-facing windows if you ever plan to watch TV during the day. Patricia is right that in inexpensive sofa table would distract from seeing the back of the sofa.

I agree totally. How much time do you spend in the dining room vs. how much time in the living room? I would want my favorite space to be the room I spend the most time in. I'd rather have a minor inconvenience of a few steps farther to the dining room from the kitchen, than spend my evenings sitting in a space I felt was too small or too dark or whatever. That bay is gorgeous (as is your whole space) and I would likely want that to be in my living room.

Well anything could be changed out if you don't like something about it. But is it mainly the wall color you don't like? Easiest IMHO to change that. Go with something less contrasty with the other colors in the room. More beige. I had the same problem many years ago when I moved into my first house. I took a lot of time carefully choosing what I thought was the ideal wall color. My dad was visiting helping me get the house ready. He painted the whole room while I was at work. I came home to the "pepto bismol" room. And I could not really repaint after all that work my dad did for me. That's actually when I first started hanging out on this forum, trying to figure out how to make it less of a problem. So if you can't or really don't want to repaint, the other approach is to fill the room with some accents and more colors similar to the wall color. Something gold or yellowish. You have a lot of blue, which is the contrasting color, which only serves to highlight the wall color. Since your art has an oriental vibe, ever thought about shoji screens for the smaller windows? I wouldn't sweat the proportion of things, that can often appear off on the standard quick photo shot folks take for advice on here. Same can be said for the color of the walls. But you mention quite a bit about not liking it. Overall I LOVE your room!

The general rule for safety is keep the crib away from windows so I think where you have it now is the best possible place.

It looks like the TV might work where you have the boxes to the right of the big window. You could also put a TV in between the two windows on the other wall.

If you chose to put the TV where the boxes are you could do an L shape layout like this:

We ended up putting the tv where the boxes are in the picture. We realized putting it between the windows does not actually give much space for a couch + chairs on the sides.

Layer syetem always works,, so kitchen, eating then TV were the boxes go, This is the space for it. It has the most light available and it will be the space in which you are always sitting. However there is a large disconnect from the kitchen to the TV. Which could be a problem for the ktichen workers,, unless she is your mom.
