I thought that looked like MA! (What town? We were in North Andover). Anyway - your real estate listing might list the type of siding. Go out and have a look at it - if it's wood, it will be pretty obvious. (texture - you'll have rough bits and it won't be uniform). A lot of houses built in the 90s have composite siding - cement board. That will be more uniform looking than wood, and will be very solid sounding if you tap it with your finger. If it's vinyl, it will be extremely uniform looking, probably pretty smooth and sound plastic-y if you tap it (kind of hollow, too, probably). Aluminum siding will also be extremely uniform looking and metallic sounding if you tap it. You can also look at the bottom of the wall where it meets the foundation for clues - or at any joins. Note: most aluminum and vinyl siding will have a wood grain look to it, but will be quite smooth and uniform, compared to real wood. Ditto the cement board - but you should be able to tell the difference on close examination. Any siding can be painted - it just depends what type you have and what sort of preparation would need to be done. Wood and cement board siding often come (these days) from the manufacturer with a colour coating applied - at 20 years out, if it's either of those it's likely already been painted once or more. Vinyl fades over time (and gets brittle) and aluminum also fades and often gets chalky.

Pink Mountain, lol about my house being a prime example of needing foundation plantings! It's what we've been saying for months. We've only been here a year, got a lot of inside work done and now want to start on front. Little by little as budget allows. I'll definitely use these ideas.

Here's what I'd do. change out that front door. it's faux victorian style and doesn't work on your style home. Do a door something like this (not necessarily this color, just the style), remove that one pair of shutters (you don't need them) and remove the dated looking inserts on the garage door windows and add some iron carriage hardware to the door other softer blue combos. (If you have an HOA, check w/them first. Seems like every color house is that buttery yellow) If you're in the tropic region of the state, anything goes. If your front faces north or east, you could do some shade loving ferns/begonias, and bromeliads for some color. I'd remove that boxy shrub under the window. I'd prob switch out that red mulch in the flower beds and do a black/or brown bark. a lot of flower beds also use the white rock If you go to the SW ColorSnap app, you can upload a pic of your house and try out colors. Sorry for the delayed time in responding. It took longer than we anticipated for the work to begin (and be completed). We look forward to seeing the front plantings fill in over the next couple of years as these plants grow. Everything in the garden beds are on a drip system, are deer resistant, and hopefully will do well as they mature. I’ve also included a picture of the back yard which underwent the biggest transformation. It was all grass with plastic borders, and now it’s an area we will actually use. Will be on the hunt for outdoor furniture, but in the meantime, this is how is looks. We are very pleased! Thanks to everyone who offered their advice - Houzz is such a great community.
