Adapting a grid-tied solar system to off-grid use.

I have an almost 2-year old solar panel system consisting of 54 305Watt panels and suitable SolarEdge inverters, which is tied to the electrical grid. I know that if I want to use this off-grid, I would have to have a large battery array and an automatic transfer switch. I would like to know if there is a legal and safe way to use this without a battery, to power my house during the day in the event of a grid power outage.
