Comments (30)its always possible, here in VA weve had snow in April, if it happens id cover what i could and bring the others inside. it wouldnt be a total loss. Most of my peppers/tomatoes are in containers. Corn was old seed and between you and i, not a variety i cared for anyways and i have probably 2lbs of corn seed that needs to be planted in the next 1-2 yrs anyways i guess it wouldnt kill me, just really pi$$ me off a little(more because its my own fault, and i should know better). Im more worried about another hail storm. had one last spring that just destroyed my garden, including my corn. then 2nd run of corn we had the hurricane......See MoreFertilizer.Does anyone else ever notice this from temp. changes?
Comments (13)I CANNOT believe you actually said this: "When was the last time you said anything nice to me????" but since you did, here's a real direct answer. May 7, 2009, (sorry I don't know how to post a link, for the real thing, it's about 2 pages back now, includes pix of my youngster) please see below: "How long does it take to root one of these? It is alive and well, but no roots..Weird. How long does it take to root, if at all? That leaf looks so healthy still... Thanks.. Follow-Up Postings: RE: How long does it take to root one of these? I've rooted leaves in mix, that can take around a year. I've recently water rooted a stem, but didn't make note of the date I put it up. I took these pix, 'cause they show the round tuber AND the roots the plant develops. I really don't remember how long it took, but am guessing 9 months maybe, like from last Fall (I think I had accidentally broken the stem off the parent plant). and and So if you can grow some serious patience, you might end up w/ something like this. I think I'll take mine to my local Plant Society to pass around & show this development & then sell it at their plant sale table for a couple of bucks. ----------------------------------------------------------- RE: How long does it take to root one of these? I rooted some cuttings in water and some leaves in soil but it did take more than 6 months. I now have a lovely little plant about 4" tall. After you plant it in soil the cutting or leaf will eventually die off and a new shoot will emerge. --------------------- RE: How long does it take to root one of these? That plant is so cute. Sounds like they take as long as a pregnacy for a women, almost 9 months..lol Thanks for sharing. It tells me that my waiting is worth it, and that it just may continue to live. Yes I am encouraged. I didn't want to loose it I will post a pic just as soon as I see a root... Pattirose4, thanks for sharing also. Take care and stay happy!! Thank goodness the spring has arrived..:-) --------------------- RE: How long does it take to root one of these? Comments (35)David, our last frost date here is May 15th. I'll probably start putting them out the third or fourth week of May, but if the weather doesn't cooperate it's no big deal since they're out in the greenhouse anyways, and I'll just keep potting them up until it's safe to plant them out. I really wanted them to get a good head-start this year which is why I started so early. Last year we had to wait until August before any of the tomatoes even put on fruit...so this year, we decided to get a head start, and see if we couldn't get things producing a bit sooner. I planted out small seedlings at the end of May last year, so I thought maybe if I had bigger plants ready to go out at the same time this year, we'd have fruit earlier. Hopefully that will work. I'd really like to have tomatoes to enjoy *before* the growing season is almost over!...See MoreAnyone else getting flustered with extremely cold/hot temps?
Comments (37)Bob, I'm originally from the lowcountry in SC and get back there regularly. They've got citrus greening (and quarantine) along the coastline. I think where I'm at just outside Washington DC gets almost as bad with mosquito swarms, heat, and humidity. The plus side of being in Virginia is there is a 20% chance of having 4 seasons (eg. seeing snow) which I love and I have the Shenandoah mountains an hours drive which is pretty nice. I'm definitely looking at getting away from the urban area though....See More- 2 years ago
