Sold as Picea omorika 'Pendula Bruns'
Comments (6)The appearance (and quality) of nursery stock varies tremendously from grower to grower, from my experience in the trade. Conifers in particular were more likely to vary, due, as Ken remarks, to heavy fertilizer doses, and also to field pruning - or lack thereof. Weepers showed this effect more than others - you let them push out a 2 or 3 foot leader, they look a bit sparse - but they get sold as a larger grade. That is just the business, as a retailer I had to know my growers and their field practices to get the quality of stock I wanted to offer my customers. And we're not gonna get into whether anybody really paid attention if it was really a 'Bruns', a 'Pendula', or a 'Pendula Bruns'... brian...See MorePicea omorika 'Bruns' or 'Pendula Bruns'?
Comments (24)Bluespruce, As I told you, I received my 'Pendula' from the late Kas Koemans who was a famous Dutch conifernurseryman for about 30 years. He cultivated this 'Pendula' together with the 'Pendula Bruns' from the beginning on when all the other weeping forms were not in sight yet. For all those years he took scionswood from his own stockplants and that's why I'm so sure that I have the true one. I hope I answered your question now. If you are interested in some scionswood, please let me know and I send you some in the beginning of next year ;0)...See MorePicea omorika 'Pendula Bruns'

Comments (4)It was an odd situation at a local nursery. They were selling this clone from two wholesalers side by side. The Iseli trees were pristine, while the OP trees looked haggard, but it’s entirely possible they came in earlier and went through four nights of freezing temps after pushing new growth. The OP trees were in 15 gallon containers vs. 10 for Iseli, but priced $100 less. I wish I had taken pictures....See Moretsugajunkie z5 SE WI ♱
