Should I wait for new Wolf microwave?
Comments (12)Hi jelloie and upate 167! I'm going through a near identical selection process....we purchased a home we are renovating and thought we'd be in by Christmas last year but we are just getting ready to start renovations. Strung along by a contractor, etc. ! I was thinking there was a problem with the post date on this thread! We originally planned on a single oven with convection microwave, but I really don't care for microwave cooking of any kind, but find a microwave a necessity in the kitchen--and not in the pantry. And with few uppers, I have no space for under the cabinet. I have decided that I definitely do not want the convection microwave to take the place of a second oven. I want at least two ovens plus a microwave. I really like the idea of the steam oven and I feel sold on it too--just seems so new I'm not sure yet how I'll use it. I had the same thought that I could reduce the stack size to 24" for both the drop down microwave and steam ovens--and I am struggling with "spending" 30" on a 24" steam oven--not to mention that combo is more expensive. I'll probably be going with the Wolf M-Series single oven plus the steam oven above, or double ovens. Jelloice, I looked at the Pro vs. Transitional styles on the M-Series just yesterday and I found the Pro version knobs very confusing and slow to use compared to the Transitional version. Also, my rep pointed out that the plastic knobs on the oven do not match the steel knobs on the range. I like the electronics and the handle better on the Transitional style, but I prefer the bevel of the metal door on the Pro style. Where I'm struggling is whether to get a microwave drawer vs. building-in a traditional microwave in my island--with or without a trim kit. Any thoughts/experience with drawers/in-island microwaves? My concern is that they are shallow--only 7", take longer to open and close, and they lack a carousel and I'm concerned about uneven heating--probably my biggest concern. I like built-in the look of the drawer and I understand that the trim kits on a regular built-in microwave take up the same space as the drawer--27" or 30" trim kits. Additionally, the drawers do not come in convection and if I'm going to take up that much space for a built-in trim kit, I may as well get a microwave with convection. Otherwise, I'm looking at a very basic microwave with only a cut-out and no trim kit, but a storage drawer beneath. Any advice? Help!...See MoreHere's what I want, what do you think I should get?
Comments (1)LG has a cooktop with a bridge feature for a griddle. Newegg has it for 1800. The new Thermador/Gaggenau is zoneless and would work but is expensive. AEG has zoneless cooktops without US service support shipping from the UK. 1k with 150 Fedex. These are on their third generation. An oven below or dual setup of your choice gives you options....See MoreShould I move refrigerator? Also, microwave cabinet?
Comments (35)That's a standard-depth refrigerator. The plan shows a counter-depth. If you go with a standard depth, the doors & handles will stick out farther than a counter-depth but the pantry wall will no longer be an issue. If you go with counter-depth, on the other hand, it may still be an issue - they're around 24" deep without doors and handles. How wide was the refrigerator? It doesn't look like it's 36" wide if that alcove is 38" wide. Standard depth usually start at 36" wide, so you won't have the extra inches b/w the wall and refrigerator that I see in the latest picture. Plan for an alcove that will fit at least a 36"W x 72"H refrigerator - that's the "standard" most refrigerator manufacturers seem to be landing on. You want to be able to find a refrigerator to fit in the alcove in the future b/c, yes, any refrigerator you get will probably die within 10 years - that's how they're built these days *sigh* You don't want to pay high end prices to get one to fit. We periodically have someone coming here in a panic b/c they cannot find a refrigerator to fit their alcove - 30" is usually the issue, but as time goes on, even 33" will probably become an issue. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This is your Kitchen - it's ultimately up to you to decide what to do. We're giving you our advice so any decisions you make are made with knowledge - you now have enough information to make an informed decision. You decide now where you are willing to compromise. Comments (5)If double ovens is what you want, that’s what you should get. They were a must item in my kitchen, and almost six years since our reno, I wouldn’t have it any other way. If I had to make the choice, I’d forgo the single FD oven, and get the Monogram double convection ovens. I understand your concern about the microwave. Above a double stack would be too high. And, yes, the drawer below the double stack is quite useful. Post a floor plan of your kitchen. We might be able to find another place for the MW...off the counter. We did this: Btw, if you’re looking for a place to keep trays, baking pans, cookie sheets, cooling racks, and other flat items, the space above the double ovens is perfect....See Morechispa
