Totally agree with larger rug.  On my list.

You have very nice floors. Make sure whatever you choose harmonizes with them since they take up a lot of visual space.

A much larger rug would help define the conversational layout of your sofa and armchairs and balance out the larger, dark upholstered pieces.

Pick your rug before you pick your paint so they harmonize.

Any idea on rug color or size.  Right now 5x7 which i kn ow is way to small.  Is 8x10 still too small. Or should i have all furniture completely on rug

Since you have such a large, open space, choose a rug so furniture sits on it entirely. Some kind of pattern, with a touch of gold (floor color), would contrast with the solids of your furniture, floors, walls.

This palette though not necessarily this rug. Look for texture and a bit of pile--again for contrast with the smooth, dark leather pieces.

Why greige at all? I would look at an actual color for the walls and before choosing that get a rug you love and use that as your inspo for wall color. Make sure all the lighting is the same I prefer all LED 4000K to keep colors true at night.BTW clocks are not wall art IMO .

I love Bleeker Beige from BMoore. I have accents of black, blues, and greens

@hamfast: I must've put it in my Ideabook from Houzz, which usually provides source information right in the posting. But I see it didn't. Maybe do a Houzz search for "watercolor rug gold, ivory, gray: and see what pops up.

PS: Here's a rug in that style. If you click on it then scroll down the window a lot of "marble abstract rugs" come up. Maybe you'll find the one I posted. RugsUsa, Wayfair, Overstock might have rugs like the one I showed.

For months I stared at large paint swatches of Agreeable Grey & Assessable Beige. I ended up going with SW amazing gray, and I am very happy with my decision. I think it would look nice in your place, too, might be worth checking out.

There are so many amazing colors out there. Pick a few suggestions and sample them all.
I would actually consider doing walls, all trim, all molding, and ceilings the same one color. It’ll give you a much cozier, less choppy feel. It’ll make the space feel bigger. I like this most when there is more than one, visible ceiling height.

Or if you like the art you can switch out the frames. Maybe white? Or silver? Or wood ?

I’d also change out the two kitchen lights.

Agreeable Gray is a nice pick in the right light, such as this.

You might also check BM Wind's Breath shown here on the upper walls. It's lighter than Agreeable Gray with an LRV of 70. Agreeable Gray is 62.

In open floor plans like this it is effective to use the furniture to define the spaces a little.. I would try floating the couch ..with the back to kitchen area … more seating for tv viewing and maybe a more cozy grouping for company and family

Can never go wrong with Accessible Beige. It looks good with EVERYTHING.

Also in an open space like this …an accent wall can define spaces effectively…while adding some color to the somewhat monochromatic theme

I would also consider what could be added to close off the kitchen a little… so you are not looking right into it… a tiny island? A turn in the peninsula?

For that rug above search Rug Modern Abstract and several similar come up.

They both seem a bit dark for your rooms. I think I would select a light color.

I like all the choices Beverly posted they are all very versatile with being subtle that all your other color decor furniture and accessories can be the star.

Go to your closet and see what color, you have the most of (unless its black). Use that in a pale color. Life is too short to live without color.

I’m still a fan of BM Revere Pewter, use it everywhere, it goes with everything and looks so pretty with white trim

A lot of ideas coming my way.  Thank you all.  The kitchen is brand new.  Havent even  picked a back splash yet.  Unable to turn peninsula as sink is there and basement is completly finished below.  Absolutely need new lights in kitchen, on my list.
Was planning on changing the brown furniture out in a few years or maybe less.  ᾑ4 when affordable.  I have visions but just get so stuck.  Not the best at playong with color.

You say you will be replacing your furniture in a few years. I advise you take some time to read any thing and everything about decorating. Look at magazines for furniture style, colors, patterns ...in short educate your self on what you like. Investigate fabrics...not plastics fabrics ...to see what wonderful colors and textures they come in...and most fabrics are now protected with ScotchGuard or some thing similar. And please no gray....

Love the rug housegal200.  Looked up and largest showing is 8 x 10.  Think i need larger.  Any idea for kitchen lights?  Thoughts would be appreciated.   I second guess myself.  Brutal...  i am going to rearrange furniture a bit tonight to see if a different layout workd better and post for your thoughts.  Again thanks for all the comments.

I would look for a light color other than grays or greiges, or beiges. I definitely would leave the trim all white or if you have plans to paint it, paint it a contrasting color, not the color of the walls. If you must stay neutral, then Alabaster would be a nice neutral, and then add some colorful accessories, to give the room a bit of interest. Hope you find a rug you love.
