Another terrific MCM kitchen--two in one day (sochi's, too)--Lovin' it! Those mahogany cabs are gorgeous (in the one shot above, the luster/graining seems to glow). Backsplash is perfect with your granite and your cabs, too. Love the red stools--what an awesome red they are! re: switchplates (read on your blog you want to change the ones on your backpslash)--check out arnev.com. They have a nice selection and are terrific to work with. They can make a mahogany one for the end of your peninsula (radiused or flat/straight edge--flat/straight edge would look great with your cabs), and you can even specify whether you want the grain to run vertical or horizontal (we had the cherry ones we got from Arnev stained/finished by our cab manuf to match our cabs).

crcollins - I love your kitchen, and can't wait to see the photos when it is completely finished. I am in the planning stages of a kitchen remodel, and I am very much leaning towards the Formica Aqua Dotscreen for my counters. I just sent away for a sample of this and a few of the other Formica 100th anniversary patterns, as they don't seem to have them in stores. I have searched all over, and there don't seem to be any photos online of the countertop installed. In fact, before I found this post, I came across a post from you on another site where Formica responded that there were no installed photos. If you could please post a photo or two of the installed Aqua Dotscreen countertop, I would be very appreciative! I would be putting it on white cabinets as well. I'm also wondering what type of edge you chose. Thank you!

thanks for the antler link firsthouse_mp! Are you working on another project now? Can't wait to see photos of your new house! I discovered Jessica Martin at a gallery in SF about 6 years ago. I was helping decorate the offices of the company I worked for at the time in and they bought three of her pieces that hung in our SF office. One was very similar to the one you have. I have been yearning for one of her pieces for years, so my husband bought me one of her pieces for Christmas, but it's sitting in a closet right now because we're trying to figure out the best place for it. I need to get some furniture in this house so we can find a spot for it! The house does have ocean and city lights views. And the house also came with a peacock that lives in the yard. I wake up to him at our back door every morning. My dog is getting used to him being around. Is that an Eames? Awesome! And love that Ikea pendant. I'm imagining that the light from it plays in a very interesting way on your lovely ceiling. I'd love to see a night time picture of it turned on. Your home is incredible. You have three eating areas back-to-back in your new plan? Do you really need all of them? In your proposed plan, is that room at the top of the plan a new laundry room? I'm having trouble reconciling some of the photos to where they might be on the floorplan. For example, that last picture in your post above, where is that? Could you give us a floorplan of the entire floor the kitchen is on? It can be hand-drawn. It's best if it's on graph paper, to scale, with dimensions. But even a rough drawing would help at this point and you could put something more detailed together later. I have a few ideas bouncing around in my head but I really need to see a drawing with the rest of the space to see if they might work before I take the time to put them together. Do you really want your kitchen so closed off from the rest of the house? Most MCM homes I've seen with walls of windows are more open concept than you have. My idea, if it works with the rest of the space, would be to open it up more to the dining and the rest of the house, have a lot of pantry space for main storage, and more of an un-kitchen kitchen design in that great room with the wall of windows. Does that sound like something you'd like?
