Chandelier suggestion?

Hi, Looking for a more contemporary chandelier for this space. Something with good light for dark winters?

Killer view! I am assuming the chandelier was hung too high to keep a clear sight line. Lower your next chandelier for better light coverage. Avoid Edison bulbs as they don’t typically give you the best light. Look for a dramatic light that this room deserves.

I’m in awe of your view, what gorgeous scenery.

These are all very large and I think would go well with the other elements in the room. I can’t say about light output without seeing them on, in person.

Another idea is to have one custom made — using a local firm or places like Hubbardton Forge. Not only would it be one-of-a-kind in looks, but they could get the exact light output you need.

I think this indirect lighting arrangement is called a "cove light". Is your kitchen ceiling lower than adjacent rooms? That is, is the existing flureschent fixture contained within a 9" deep soffit below the 8' ceiling or is it built into a recessed area above 8'? The former is more common. Assuming it's a dropped soffit, another option is to remove the soffit entirely, which would raise your kithcen ceiling by 9", and make the ceiling flush straight through. We just did this in our house. Of course you can't do both, and the cove light is cool, so I could imagine going either way. I'm glad we went with higher ceiling in our kitchen though.

GK5040 - I've been thinking of getting one similar to yours to go in my foyer. When you are looking at it from upstairs are the candle bulbs at about eye level? Judigal - It seems to me that if you were going to do one with glass shades that shades facing downward would be easier to keep clean. Of course the glass would get dusty anyway, so maybe not. I'm a terrible house keeper, so I always go the low maintenance route.

I turned the picture right side up for you... I think simple white or off white insulated curtains will work for your space.Ceiling to floor please. Do the same thing for both spaces. Not sure your railing is transitional but it looks like good metal work. You could use them as a style feature, or down play with a more simple drum fixture depending on what look you are going for.

You won't regret having the recessed lights. Make sure they are all on dimmers and have them organized into different groups so you have even more flexibility. Sometimes you want a room completely lit up and sometimes you don't, and it makes sense to build a house with those options. I had planned 2 chandeliers in my family room with 12 ft ceilings. Now that the house is nearly finished, it is obvious that one will be plenty, so the electricians will make some final adjustments to the plan. Also be aware that some fixtures are taking months to be delivered.

Too bad about that view though! (seriously that is amazing- I am in awe).

I like the first one Jinx posted. I don't know size wise but it's got impact but doesn't take away from the view.

(at first I clicked on the 2nd one which is over $7500......then I clicked on the first one which is now a bargain at under $3K).

That is BEAUTIFUL! But I’m sure you know that!!
I love jinx’s ideas. They’re lovely! And Perfect for the space.
They are quality options from reliable sources.
I found two alternative cheaper options. That are , frankly “less wow”, but are still the same idea.

maxim lighting and capital lighting. i like the idea less is more here. I would also suggest putting some lamps on the buffet.
