NYC in the USA, I agree with Annie. I read that some customers came in near closing time and the chef, named Caesar, had very few ingredients. So he made this unique dressing and put it on lettuce with shredded parmesan and tossed on some croutons. It was a huge hit and people began asking for it. It was the dressing.
