First, the room is very pretty. I am not liking the position of the piano. Too close to windows. I would position chairs in front of bay window and put piano so the keyboard and pianist face on angle to front wall but angled toward the adjoining room. Then add a high arc lamp so the light is positioned over music stand of piano. I wouldn’t worry about the ceiling. I would add drapery panels to the ends of the bay window. It will soften the solid lines of the room and aid the acoustics. If you leave piano in this position, the piano will suffer I believe. A arc lamp with pretty shade and maybe some crystals will really help.

Maybe this mock up will help you visualize your room. By putting a ottoman with color slightly under piano you draw the eye down. I would put the base of the arc lamp on the wall side of piano. (Couldn’t do it with this tool well). I suggest you consider painting at least your newel post for your stairs (railing too would be a plus). This will help “frame” the view as you enter the room. This room has great potential! The piano is the star of course! Lucky you!

Of course, big art on the long wall also helps ground the space. Plain light gray faux silk drapery panels soften up your look too.

Wow, thank you! Great ideas! Seeing a mock up makes me feel like I can actually accomplish this. I definitely will move piano and chairs around. Should I nix the shutters and just do drapes or are both acceptable. I have NO eye for design.

If you move the piano, I would do drapery only. Thermal/room darkening. I just put up drapery similar to what I posted for you in the bay window of our master bedroom. These panels are quite nice for the price. I got the 50 wide x 96” high and that might work for you. Get plenty of panels. Probably 8 to do your windows but you have to measure. I am using 8 panels.

Drapes will make this music room feel like a cocoon. @Flo Mangan gave you the right ideas.

Before you go to the trouble of moving that piano, post for me the room length and width, the depth and width of your chairs then I can do a layout to scale to see if this will work! 😀

Something tells me it’s part of a roofline. Not so easy to fix.

If it is just dropped in that area it's not a big deal. Flat ceilings are always dropped from something unless the roof is flat.

It’s a neat architectural element in the house. Leave it. Once you get the arrangement done and other elements the ceiling will add to the drama of the room.
