PLEASE help! Almost finished kitchen, need to rechoose granite!
Comments (44)OMG thank you all! I will look into those links. I love this forum - so many people willing to help and think outside the box. Cloudswift, the beverage center is as lowered as it can go and we cannot take 1/2 inch off the cabinet above it. We can (well we could at great expense) shave the toe kick off the cabinet next to it (but it does not help because we still have the coffee maker cabinet problem). Another problem is that base cabinet is attached to the refrigerator cabinet into which the Sub-Zero was already installed (by a certified SZ installer), I believe the fridge is bolted to the studs in the back. After the money we spent on purchasing that and the installation, I do not want to mess with removing that fridge! Thanks though, trust me I have been up every night thinking of ways to resolve this dilemna!...See MoreBait and switch Granite? What to do?
Comments (11)Thanks, The contract says that I lose 50% of my deposit. The total for both pieces was $2300. One piece is 36 x 78 and the other is 17 x 75. About $80 per square foot with the edging. They initially told me after the templator came out, they would call me to lay out the piece. But after the templator left on Friday, I got a call about 30 minutes later saying they were going to cut the piece already. I said okay, thinking that there would be no issues. I guess I could call them again to tell them I want to lay out the pieces before they cut it. It's black galaxy, so I didn't think it would be this complicated. We decided to go Halloween costume shopping for my kids and since their warehouse is near a mall (Cherry Hill), my husband said lets just stop by to look. I just don't like the feeling that I am not getting what I asked for. I did call the company again and told them that I want to make sure they are going to use the piece that I picked and that I would come by to check out the final product before they come out on Wed. I hate to have to double check on someone else who is supposed to be doing their job. I feel like it makes for such a bad start/ interaction. I was eventually planning change out my kitchen and perimeter granite and was hoping to use them for that as well....See MoreGranite name... help please.
Comments (6)It seemed to me that the only difference between Kashmir white and River whites that I looked at (at several different stoneyards) was the Kashmir whites were a greyer overall, and River white was creamier. They had similar patterning and the garnet inclusions; some slabs had more, some less, some were busier than others. I don't recall ever seeing either with that much speckling -- they always seemed to be more linear which I liked. Bianco Romano is similar, too, it could be that....See MoreKitchen update at beach house......please help with granite choice
Comments (35)Thanks everyone for all of your ideas, and the photos are so great. First, I played around with a color visualizer to get an idea about how the dark blue granite would look: Good thing I don't do photoshop for a living, LOL, but it gave me an idea about how it would look. I also put in a call to the granite guy to see what he says about possibly replacing the stove later, and waiting to hear from him to clarify. I don't completely understand the issue about how the granite has to be cut to accommodate the existing stove. He may have to determine that when he makes the template. I do see in the photos that the stainless stove looks good with other appliances being white. The key would be to keep the dishwasher white so that the stove is highlighted. This is all so helpful, thanks!...See MoreMrs Pete
