Nursery recommendations for trees - Upper Valley VT/NH
Comments (6)Are you wanting a nursery that you can visit personally? The NH state forest nursery is in Boscawen, NH, which is more than an hour south of you, about 15 minutes north of Concord, NH, so definitely not in the Upper Valley, but not hugely far away if you're thinking about a day trip. There would be two other nurseries that you could visit on the same trip, that you would pass between Concord and the nursery: Black Forest in Boscawen (you'd drive right past it) and Brochu's in Concord (less than a mile by road off I-93, but visible from the highway.) The state forest nursery sells a pretty good selection of natives and some introduced species, and often sells out on some of the more popular items. The other two nurseries have between them a good selection of native and non-native ornamentals, some of them quite large, so you'd want a good-sized vehicle with something to protect the plants or make delivery arrangements. I'm not sure how far either one will go to make deliveries. I'm sorry, but I don't know the Upper Valley well enough to make recommendations for nurseries in that area. Hopefully someone else will....See MoreCT Has ID'd Blight in NH County
Comments (24)Hi Carolyn, Yes, I'm right outside of Voorheesville, in the town of New Scotland. I'm also very familiar with Loudonville and spent a good-sized portion of my life working at Siena College. I've never seen Gray Mold, unless it is related to botrytis that occurs mostly on petunias and occasionally on the roses when it has been cool and wet. I am rooting for Gray Mold now because it's the way lesser of two evils. :-) My only concern is the rate at which it as spreading among the leaves in this one container. More leaves are getting this crud every day, despite the fact that they haven't been watered since the last rainfall and the soil-less mix is pretty dry. The plants are still a few inches from the top of the container, so hopefully the container is containing (pun intended) whatever it is that's causing the problem. The samples have been dropped off at CCE and they are going to have someone look at them under a microscope and let me know what they find. It sounds like it will be looked at today. Let's hope so. Yeah, I got a Master Gardner who was buffaloed and didn't know that they actually look for and track Late Blight outbreaks. So I was insistent and persistent, explained that this is somewhat important in case it is LB, paid my $3.00 and will follow up if I don't hear anything. In the meantime, I'll post back one way or the other later today. Patience is not one of my virtues. :-)...See MoreSeptember Trip to the Atlantic Coast

Comments (93)Thanks Anglophilia! white shorts and white ankle pants are my uniform as well (and black workout shorts :). I seldom wear jeans unless on vacation. We like to walk a lot so stretchy slim ankle jeans come in handy. I guess I'm sort of classic but with a twist. I think I finally found a solution for a long sleeve button down blouse. Normally I can not wear proper button downs due to my large wing span and somewhat larger bust. I'm left with a tent of fabric around the middle after having to go up a size or two. My solution is a real tie front as opposed to one you make into a tie with a bulky bunch of cloth around the middle. The one I really want is pricey for me $154 and is a linen rayon blend. 55% linen 45% rayon. This one below is on sale at JCrew factory (cheap) has good reviews but Is rather thin and 100% cotton so might not travel as well. These will go great with the camel color sweater above or the white denim swing jacket and white pants, shorts or blue jeans. And, also my camel color purse/backpack and natural or nude shoes. Again, having problems with spending as in it seems I'm doing too much. ETA: I'm springing for the first one, Rails Val gingham tie front. It pains me. However, these shirts are meant to be well made and comfortable so it will last me and I don't think it will look dated for a long while. And, it has multi purpose capabilities....See Morelocaleater
