Solid or 5-piece drawer?

HELP! Give me some reasons why I should or shouldn't go for solid or 5-piece. The cabinets will be white shaker with a simple detail in the inner profile.

I almost always go for a solid drawer front. It's a cleaner, less fussy look. It gives you more options with hardware and. it is way easier to clean.

When you're measuring how wide your threshold or wall cap is, make sure you aren't just measuring the width of the drywalled wall -- you have to add to the width the thickness of tile and the thinset which will adhere the tile on both sides. (Because of the lead time you may need to get your pieces cut, you typically will order the threshold or wall cap once the structure is built but before it's been tiled.) Your tile installer may want to have the finished pieces on-hand before tiling; there can be some wiggle-room adjustments made if everything is available before the tile or caps are installed. In this picture, you can see some of the granite pieces (same granite used for the vanity top) we used in our shower. Our contractor suggested using the solid granite pieces for the top of the curb, the top of the two half walls, and the door jambs (the vertical walls) and it both looks and functions very well. (Sorry I don't have a picture handy which shows the whole thing -- just imagine the curb across the door opening in the same piece of granite.) -- Eric

3/4 or 5/16 or 7/16 solid wood choices?

my thoughts are two fold. First I worked for Bruce and we always had a 5/16th product. There was nothing wrong with the thickness and it was very durable. I can also tell you that it wasn't always so easy to install and we had our fair share of problems getting it right. I'm sure there are still installers who wrote off Bruce because of Natural Reflections. I'd therefore be more interested in the stores experience in dealing with the product. What I can tell you as a former rep with 25 yrs in the industry that if the dealer you like, is more of an independent they are not going to selling a product that their installers hate, or they have bad reactions to. If its a home depot type place, they are going to be selling whatever they have around, so if your using a dealer you like, like the product, and they feel its good for your needs, just make the decision. Basing a wood floor buying decision solely on thickness isn't a sound factor.

Sorry, I don't think I used the right terms. I actually meant the rough opening in my original post. Right now the door does fit the jamb and the jamb fits in the rough opening. The problem is the ceiling in the closet is dropped to accommodate some pipes. So now the ceiling of the closet is slightly lower than the rough opening and will be lower than the door jamb when installed. Not much, but when you open the door you'll be able to see the edge of the drywall sitting lower than the door jamb. Too much work to try and raise the ceiling of the closet (which is drywalled already) so I'm hoping to lower the top rough in and then cut down the jamb and doors to fit.

bin pulls on 5 piece drawer fronts? any pics?

I put mine on the upper rail, so, not where you have in mind. I didn't want to jam up my fingers trying to open the drawers, but I also just wanted them higher. Oh, and I have four drawer fronts that are glass inside the stiles and rails so those obviously had to go higher. I can take a pic if you want, but I don't think that's what you are after, am I right?!

I agree with Maddden to a point but I need to see the drawers IMO some large drawers in a shaker kitchen need the detail BTW make sure you are aware of the PITA that can be when trying to clean cabinet doors with detail other than the shaker panels.

This is the door style. Most of the drawers will be 30+ inches

Yes but how tall? This five piece drawer is great on drawers 9” or taller but awkward on 6” tall drawers. Width doesn’t really matter.

For a 3-stack base, 6", 12", 12". Should I do flat on the top drawer only?

When I was deciding this, I search pics on this site for kitchens with both style drawers. I found I was drawn to 5 piece. But you may feel differently

The top drawer of a 5-piece should have thinner horizontal rails to allow for hardware placement. This photo has the top drawer done that way, but not all cabinet makers or manufacturers will do this.

INHO, the five piece drawers seem true to the Shaker look. The flat front seems like a modern take on the original style. I have 6 "top" drawers in my kitchen (including two sink tilt-out trays) and I love the five piece look.
