bin pulls on 5 piece drawer fronts? any pics?

Lurker-turned-recent-member with a question here!

I ordered simple "shaker style" cabinets with drawer fronts that have 5 piece, stiled fronts, as opposed to slab fronts. I am considering bin pulls for the drawers, but am wondering if they will fit in the drawer fronts with enough space to comfortably get your fingers under the pull. Does anyone know how much space there is in the recessed area of the 5-piece drawer front (where the hardware would typically go)? If you have any photos of your shaker style 5-piece drawers with bin pulls, I would love to see them.

I have learned quite a bit from "behind the scenes" on this forum, and am now ready to start the process of contributing as well, and hopefully providing helpful advice and photos of my house (and kitchen) remodel to the rest of the members! Thanks in advance for any assistance!

I put mine on the upper rail, so, not where you have in mind. I didn't want to jam up my fingers trying to open the drawers, but I also just wanted them higher. Oh, and I have four drawer fronts that are glass inside the stiles and rails so those obviously had to go higher. I can take a pic if you want, but I don't think that's what you are after, am I right?!

I hadn't really considered putting the hardware on the top rail. I will have to check into that look! If it's easy to post a pic, that would be great, but if not, don't worry about it. Thank you for the response!

Nosoccermom, I'm not sure if you are asking about my kitchen or the white kitchen. In both cases the doors are 5 piece with the panel recessed like for typical shaker doors. The drawers (in our case the drawers less than 8" high) are slab, i.e. a single flat piece of wood for the front). In our kitchen, as you can see in the picture, the taller drawers are 5 piece with the same profile as the doors - rails and stiles raised with a recessed flat center. My cab maker said our top drawers will be 4 3/4" and with rails there will be 1 3/4" space in between for hardware. Springroz has 3" space in between and Christine has 6" drawers with 3" in between. That could be the difference. Out of our 26 drawers, only 8 are small top drawers so maybe I should do slab on those. Looking back I do like the look for the top drawer. I was just "scared" that without a bead they may be too plain but I think with everything else that goes on in a kitchen it will probably look great anyway! Just making sure with cab maker all the top drawers are 4 3/4" before I make a final decision : )

Ask to see a spec sheet on the drawer fronts. If you're going with a flat panel door, the taller drawer fronts may be a raised panel, which holds up better against the stress on a large drawer front. Custom cabinet makers will use suppliers like Conestoga for doors and drawer fronts. They can make them and ship them, faster, cheaper and better than you can in most shops. Ask him to show you an example of a door and a 5-piece drawer front. Finish is also important, find out about that before you put down any money. A clean room and conversion varnish is imperative. And insist on a pay schedule that's 30% upfront, 30% right before delivery and %40 upon completion. Two of the nightmares that show up on this forum are bad finish on a custom cabinet and the contractor's been paid but won't finish the installation or fix a problem.

I think I will order a sample of each color. But, my feeling with the light fixture and the pantry door, is that a mix of the two metals will be a good thing. If I use a light metal, then everything is light with the exception of the light fixture. That is probably fine as well with the dark floor, and antique pantry door. Sarah made me think more about the OTHER drawers. Ha! Thank you! So, probably a smaller cup pull. I also like and not sure if the metals will match though. This would like this If I used a smaller size of my original cup pull, it would look like this And then I need to think about the four stack to the right and the three stack near the sink Any words of wisdom?
