Most definitely, the design challenge for living rooms that have no foyer and is a walk thru room is to create that cosy feeling. The configuration of your room should be flipped. The long sleek sofa should be on the long sleek wall. By relocating the sofa, a foyer is created with a sofa table under the window with the bench under it and a closed wood cabinet backing up the sofa. Walking into a solid piece of wood furniture will ground the space and define the seating. There is 4'-0" clearance from the front door wall and the edge of the sofa and don't forget that everything is low (30" - 33") so there isn't an obstruction. Also creating the foyer forces a specific space for all that stuff we all walk in with when we get home. In the plan note that the blue line indicates the tv (sorry for moving all those wires). The red lines indicate art/mirrors. By relocating the tv on the staircase wall, it allows easy access to the closet under the stairs, creates a reading nook at the window, and allows room for another lounge chair and ottoman near the stairs. It looks good, too. Consider painting the wall behind the tv from the window to the staircase an interesting color, wallpaper or wall treatment. this way that wall will be pleasing to look at. Here's the plan, the best I could figure out without measurements. Looks like a very big sofa so a 12' sofa is in the plan. The rug should be a 9 x 12 in front of the sofa and a runner at the front door running side to side.Of course you will have to verify the measurements to make sure this will work. The nice thing about furniture is that you can move it around! Hope this helps.

I am NOT a pro. I am a mom with a big family, so above all, listen to the pros! But here is my advice, having thought through these same circumstances (in a differently configured room). If watching TV is important (and sometimes it is! Our teens (not academic slackers, and also athletes) have played hours of fun teenage video games, with friends over, and, as well, we often watch movies together on a big screen. So, I place a significant importance on the TV. Not everyone does, and I get that. I would hang the TV on the blue/wallpapered wall. I would buy a sofa to max out the space between the front door and where the TV is now. Yes, it will go in front of that window. So what. You can put a narrow (8" wide or so) console behind it for lamps. Then I would find 2 comfortable armchairs, probably swivel chairs, to float between the front door, the fireplace, and hopefully not blocking the entrance to the dining room. When no one is watching TV, the swivel armchairs can be arranged to complement the fireplace, with perhaps a convenient accent table or card table in between, but for movie-watching, they could be (carefully-wood floors) slid over to provide more seating for the TV. That's what I would do.

That is not helping and IMO wait until you are in before buying anything. If you post a plan to scale showing all windows doorways , where the doorways lead then we can maybe help with the basics . We also need to know what your style is. My advice is get a designer to help . If budget is an issue go shopping find a store where you like the style and use the on site designer to help with the basics .

Have you moved in? If not you have no idea what the natural flow will b. houses have a way of making the flow not always what you thought it would be. I need to see the whole house floor plan to even begin to guess what the flow could be. As for furniture IMO a sofa and 2 chairs is a much better choice than any sectional for sure . Do you need to have a tV in this space that is usually where the plan starts .If you are in we need pictures of the space showing all 4 walls. Post the plan the pics every thing that relates to this dilemma here in comments DO NOT start another post on this subject.
