sandstone - limestone - quartzite - which is best for hot climate
Comments (2)Good questions ! I am planning a pool (in Dallas) w/ the stone going down into it like a sitting edge vs. having tile. Pools are generally alkaline, no? Seems like limestone would not get eaten but we were just at the Hilton Waikola in HI. They have stone along a canal (water taxi) that was eaten up bad. I think it was limestone. The water may have been ocean water. Not sure. Kind of scared me seeing that much damage. I guess pool plaster gets eaten slowly also. I would not want to ever replace the stone work however! I thought quartzite was very hard based on the name. Does it flake? Crystallized rock generally does not flake. I am considering a type of slate from MX. I have 4200sf of flag patio & walks that is a mix of that & aged surface limestone. The slate like stone does fleck off for some time until you get rid of the loose stuff. I don't think the water would eat it as bad as limestone however. Input on this would be greatly appreciated!!!...See MoreBest sealant for carrera marble countertops?
Comments (3)My marble yard only recommended SenGuard by Cosentino for white marbles. I have used it on my calacatta gold (honed) and have not seen any stains, and supposedly it lasts for 15+ years. I bought the sealant from the yard, but you can buy it at one place online, too. There's always the risk of etching, which has nothing to do with sealing, but honed marble hides the spots better....See MoreBest Sealer for porous granite?
Comments (8)The particular granite you have is oriented granite that tends to be quite porous. These type of granites will need anywhere from 2-4 coats of Bulletproof sealer. The Bulletproof is the best sealer that we have and that is out on the market. The sealer is designed to buy you time to wipe a stain up however things such as coffee, strawberry and tomatoes do have acid and if not wipe up quickly can leave a stain as it eats through the sealer. If your granite is darkening with water rather quickly then there is not enough sealer or the sealer was not applied properly. I would recommend to clean well KlenzAll to remove as much of the staining as possible. Use the Oil Stain Remover to remove the deep set oil stain. Once all clean reseal with Bulletproof following the directions for application. Comments (2)Loctite 2in1 Seal and Bond Tub and Tile sealant. In the red tube. This is the old Polyseamseal sealant that is mold/ mildew resistant. I got around 5 years mildew free out of it in a challenging environment. Supposed to be the best product around, per Terry Love. Mold 'resistant' is the best you can do. Tub and Tile products have additives to keep mold/ mildew at bay. The additives leach out/ give out over time. Then you have to dig the caulking out and replace. Which I've needed to do in the shower but haven't. (Along the way, I've learned that quaternary disinfectants do a lot better job of keeping mold/ mildew controlled than chlorine bleach does. Treat with the quat/ don't expect instant results.)...See Morelisachew5
