I think I may be a big freaking freak
Comments (18)I used to be able to write well, too, before Internet forums entered my life. Formal, proper writing sounds stuffy and very unlike me. I wind up inserting loads of dashes and parenthesis, semi-colons and commas, and my sentences ramble in the same way my mind does. (Better than an incomplete sentence, indeed. lol!) Spelling- ugh! My Dad (who was a very good speller) used to say that since I read a fair amount, spelling should come easily, as if I looked at each letter as I read. I don't think so. I suppose he had the same sort of ability to visualize the words after as you do, Karen. I have a knack for visualizing other things, but not written words. I could easily picture my living room painted green, with the front wall pushed out 10 feet and the ceiling vaulted. (It's not that I'm hankering for a green living room; I just wouldn't have any trouble visualizing it.) I never have to bring samples home to see whether they match what I've got. I can remember and visualize the colors. It's not so with words. For me, learning to spell requires a lot of boring repetition. Is crepehanger an unusual word? It's one my parents used (not a lot, but when appropriate) from the time I was little. The rest were new to me. I can only hope my family will offer me encomium on my burgoo someday. The word sciolism offers some delightful possibilities. It seems one would exhibit it merely by using it. That could leave others wondering whether the speaker/writer was indeed being sciolistic or merely offering up some mildly self-depreciating humor. I've said it before-- my pet misusage peeve is snuck. There's a perfectly good regular past tense- sneaked. Why make things more difficult? I suppose it's useful for writers of dirty limericks, but it grates on me. (My dirty limericks are much less obvious! They use words like "sciolism".) Using "impacted" as a verb bothers me too. I think it brings up negative associations with wisdom tooth surgeries. The word "affected" works just fine, so why "impacted"? (I have been guilty of using "access" as a verb on occasion, but only in computer terms.) Some of the conglomerate words for "big" sound downright goofy. Humongous was bad enough; ginormous is just dumb. How about irregardless and disorientated? (ooo, fragment alert!) Anticlimatic is funny! I love that! I get a kick out of it when people describe themselves as nauseous, too. Words are fun!...See MoreI'm freaking out on the counter guys!
Comments (4)Thanks for your support guys. I am good now with the way the counters look. I'm not sure what is going to happen with all the stuff that needs to be worked on. The woman in charge of that was sick today. There were a couple of problems. There are some drippy marks and a rough spot on one of the counters. I feel certain that can be easily fixed. There is a very rough edge on the bottom of the window sill, and the little ears that stick out on each side (under the vertical trim) are not even. The bar top needed to be completely even with the plywood so that my doors below it would open. It isn't and they hit the little lip when try to open doors. They will def take care of that. Then the pieces where the overhang is too small is up in the air as to what they need to do. No longer freaking out, but still a couple of issues to be resolved. More updates later. Comments (7)Easysand is one brand of setting compound. It is available in a number of set times, indicated on the bag by the umber following the name. Easysand20, Easysand45, etc. The number is the approximate setting time in minutes, but like any plaster product is is only a rough guide. GO for the largest number you can find (often 90, but longer is made). You can top with premix or more setting compound. I never use premix for anything any more. You can put another layer on the setting compound as soon as ot has hardened. It does not need to dry, just set....See MoreFeel kinda bad... fired my drywall guy
Comments (22)Nap: Yeah, I agree with that. I always have told my girls "you teach people how they can treat you." I'm glad I nipped it. I think I'm just regretting not nipping it after the 3 wk wait. I'm getting too old for crap that irritates me. Especially when I'm PAYING for it. Dilly: That stinks. I'd never handle it as graciously as you seem to be. I'd be doing the Medusa thing by now. Marcolo: I believe you are right. Engineer: Yup. I knew that and forgot. I've actually only personally known one incident of friends doing well in a business venture together for the long haul. Fori and Marti: exactly the scenario I want no part of. That not showing up crap makes me crazy and I don't get it. WTH does someone want to run their own business for if they aren't going to benefit from happy customers and excellent word of mouth? It's so stupid....See Morepleballerina
